Lets say you have a Bridger #2 Dogless pan, run normally on the jaw or lug (like a no bs extreme). If you were to grind off a small piece of the pan engagement notch, would it increase or decrease the pan tension? I don't mean making the night latch shelf more shallow, I am referring to filing or grinding a small segment of the actual pan hook up off to narrow the width of where the pan and the jaw face/lug mate up.

Thoughts?

It shouldn't, it would reduce travel but unless you mess with he upwards or downwards angle I don't see show you could get much weight difference....maybe a ounce or two but that just with in seeing

I would think it would decrease some. Less friction, less surface area touching should mean less force to get it moving.

This wouldn’t be really noticeable at all. Angle of contact points, spring strength, and bolt tension all contribute to the different pan tensions on a dogless trap. Narrow could cause less friction but with metal it can be the complete opposite it can cause more if both contacts are not of the same hardness one is going to bite into the other being narrow instead of pressure being applied over a wide service.

What is wanting to be accomplished with this less or more tension? Or maybe a more controlled tension? On bridger pans I’ve found the pan notch needs to be squared off with a file for a crisp quick no drop fire. The no bs I’ve found if you adjust your pan to where it is slightly pointed down same results and on both always carrying the tools to tighten pan bolts back down for they both like to back off causing less pan tension some like there dogless traps that way though. I myself don’t care for a light pan tension.
