We have a gas stove-oven. We bought it new 24 years ago. Never had any problems with it.

Tonight my wife put some french fries in it and set the timer. When the timer went off, the oven was off. It had started to heat up because the oven was warm but it wasn't hot. We shut it off and tried again but it wouldn't even fire up. All 4 burners work fine, so the gas is not out.

Any thoughts or suggestions or are we getting a new stove-oven.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hard to believe that isn't something that can be fixed. A solenoid valve in the gas supply to the oven maybe. I'd call an appliance repair guy. Meanwhile, you can do anything in your gas grill that you can do in an oven, it just takes a bit more monitoring.

Likely the thermocouple is bad or crudded up. The pilot light heats it up to keep the gas flowing. Try cleaning any carbon off it, then replacement.
