So I set some weasel boxes for chipmunks as my dogs have been going nuts and digging trying to catch them. I put peanut butter and bird seed in the back of them. Came home tonight and the box was about ten feet from where I had it set. The wire holding the lid on was stretched and the lid was open. Trap is gone! In my thinking it had to be something small enough to go through the hole because there is no way the victor rat trap went through the hole. It was getting dark and overcast so I couldn't see any tracks and my dogs were running around. I'm also wondering if my dog dug it open and took off with the chipmunk and trap?

So what do you think?

I’d say the dog theory is correct.

Your dog theory holds water. What about grey squirrels?

I have nothing clever to put here.

I had coons messing with my chipmunk boxes this year. Lids open, traps snapped.

That seems like the right answer, coon wanted the PeanutButter , and opened the box, got caught, and took the trap with them.
The trap isn't far away.

I'm thinking Bear!

Are those teeth marks on the box? Looks like dog to me. A bear would have left puncture marks more than likely.
