I have had good luck with most commercial coon lures year round. Haven’t found much differences. Most rat lures are also attractive to coon. I used a lot of blackies blend “money maker” and “sugar babe” and had great luck at rocket sets using those for both coon and rats, sometimes got a beaver or a mink with them too. Hard to go wrong water trapping with a pocket set and good all around lure. Not sure why but got a lot of rats and coon off of river clams at pocket sets too. Both seems to like them. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Like I mentioned I’ve used coon lures year round. Lot of summer damage jobs with sweet corn or garden issues. Cages and a good coon lure worked for me, same ones I used in trapping season late fall winter too. Not very complicated. On gravel roads here in summer I see piles of coon poo near the plum thickets and they will be loaded with plum pits. I tried ripe plums for bait in summer and didn’t do as well as I thought. A good coon lure or fish works for me year round.

Also, last several years I’ve used a jar of Dakota brand coon and rat bait. It’s a reddish clear gel type bait and it works well year round on both species. Smear it on something, in a pocket, in a cage, DP, on a rat float, haven’t gone wrong with that stuff either. Of course also set right on sign and put it under their nose. Jim

Huh ok I mostly use 110s for rats but I figure in the river where I trap it’s hard to find there holes so I might pick me some of that up, rats are somewhat attracted to fish oil right?

Carp it’s free and plentiful don’t overthink this there’s not much a coon won’t eat.

I've used Hawbakers since I was a kid and later I found Carman's Nocturnal to attract the interest of rats, mink and coon. Like has been said above they are not too picky.

So in theory(totally not doing this) if I where to take some big firework shellls and fill them with gunpowder and put a fuse in the middle with hot glue around it, would it kill carp?
