I bought cable last year 1x19 5/64 and could not get it to hang properly after loadingl. I’ve been building snares for several years now first time I’ve had this issue. Is there one type of a cable better than others to use? Got pretty frustrated with it.

Chief, I am old school and still prefer the 7x7 type. But have used a lot of PURCHASED 1x19 snares and liked them. They both work...we can't use snares on land here cut my teeth with snare use out of state trapping where it was legal. Here in Illinois we CAN snare beaver in the water.

Same on the 7x7 Mike...Like a 8ft 5/64 snare for coyote, and also find 5/64 great for beaver, coon & fox as well, pretty versatile size.

I have used a lot of 7 x 7 in the past. But like the loop 1x19 makes. This time when I order cable, I will be ordering 7 x 7 5/64 What is the best brand or maker of cable that is most consistent for making good snares? I appreciate the advice.

You want Korean cable. Newt (snareone.com) and a few others carry it.
Was the issue with your 1x19 a kind of side twisting issue? It's a fairly common thing in non Korean cable. It's usuable with small 8in or less snares but any larger it becomes a pain.
Yup, Korean. They get the lay right without the twist.
Southern Snares carries it.
Also, 1x19 takes a different touch when loading than 7x7. Hard to describe but it's a matter of feel, not as much of an aggressive bend or pressure to get a good curve.

I ordered a small 100’ roll of 1x19 for making ram snares and had the same issue. My loops are bigger, but I’d have to give it a twist before letting the ram rest on the stop to hold it, or I can adjust the way the ram sits. If I order cable now, some of it will say “Korean” in the description. I stick to that stuff and noticed it doesn’t have that issue.

The sad thing is there are no cable making operations here in the US any more (that I know of). Some of the best cable I ever used was from Gilbert and Bennett in Connecticut. We got all our ranch mink cage wire from there. They went bankrupt in the late 1990's.

Is the Korean cable you are writung about stainless steel cable or galvanized? Here I can only find stainless steel Korean cable for marine applications. But stainless steel seems to be mor brittle and likely to break?

If I remember correctly when you were making snares for sale you had one of the biggest spools of cable…

Both. But I bought off Dam Beaver in Saskatchewan, they also sell genuine Saskatchewan seal skin bindings…lol
