Anyone have to wear the mask and deal with this? I was wearing a heart monitor and they said my pulse was dropping to 31 while I was sleeping. They did a sleep monitor test and said I was stopping breathing up to 30 times an hour.
I spent a night in the hospital and they hooked stuff to my chest and my head and had me wear the mask for the night. I asked them why they were gluing stuff to my head and they told me it was to monitor my brain waves while I slept. I told them they were wasting their time cause I was brainless.
I woke up 3 times that night and always went right back to sleep. They sent me to a medical supply place and they gave me masks and a unit. I can't sleep with the mask on. Something appears drastically different from the one they used on me at the hospital. I will fall asleep for an hour or so and then I wake up in a panic because I can't breathe. I rip the mask off and shortly I go right back to sleep. This keeps happening. Nothing changes. I don't know if I have a faulty machine if that is even possible.
Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Anyone have good experiences or bad experiences with CPAP.
Thanks in advance.
Randy

That machine ...saved my quality of life. I was waking up 90 times per hour...not good. Didn’t feel like doing anything.
My wife recorded me sleeping on her phone....and showed it to me...I ran to get a sleep study.
I have the full face mask...it’s like wearing my spray painting mask.
The straps have to be loose ..to be effective. I have a stash and goat -tee...no problem.
I find ..if the air pumping in is too much and annoying...intake my finger and slightly lift the mask off my face...the machine will shut off..
Then when I remove my finger and the mask goes back on my Hollywood face....the machine kicks on in a very low air speed...then once you fall
Asleep...it will ramp up the wind...but you’ll be sleeping by then,
I’ve had the hose fall off during the night...you’ll still be able to breathe....you can not suffocate.
It takes about a month to get use to it.
But the benefits are huge !!
No more going to the bathroom 3-5 times a night.
My doc told me....you have to wizz cus your not sleeping.
Cures acid reflex too.
Get your energy back...no falling asleep at the traffic light again

I have the nasal pad set up for my CPAP. I've had a CPAP for about 12-14 years. I did a new sleep study this passed December, I stop breathing on average 80 times per hour and don't hit REM.. so I don't get good sleep. I don't like the thing, but I probably would have died in my sleep without it.
Sounds like you may need more air flow, but I'm not a doctor. I just play one on TV !

I have never heard of anyone having a sleep study done that came back with a report that all is good.

That makes complete sense. Why would anyone, who is not having apneas, take a sleep study? Their doctor wouldn't prescribe a study if there wasn't a strong suspicion that there was a problem with sleep apnea. The tests are expensive and have to be approved by insurance. Insurance does not approve the test unless sleep apnea looks like a certainty. Keith

I did one of those sleep studies years ago. Told me I had me I had sleep apnea and said I needed one of those machines. I said - no thanks. I’m still alive 15 years later.
I think the whole thing is a scam to sell those machines.. total BS.
Good Luck. Lol.... I'm wondering if they ever send someone home without one . Ever ?.........big business

I don't have any trouble sleeping. I dream so I know I am getting REM sleep. I don't get up to use the bathroom at night. I feel fine. I walk 36 holes twice a week. The days I'm not golfing I usually walk 3 to 4 miles around the house on the county roads. I stay up to midnight or better and I am usually up by 6. I may fall asleep watching TV in the evenings now and then but I never considered that to be a problem. I was actually surprised when they told me my results. My pulse is upper 40's to mid 50's when I'm at rest but they said 31 while sleeping is not good.

If you live alone....you'll have no clue ..that you stop breathing for 30 seconds at a time.

Good Luck. According to the people that sell the machines, I bet every adult in the world has Sleep Apnea.

My GP sent me in to have a sleep study done. Ened up I knew the nurse who did the test. Asked he the next morning how it went. She said I was boarder line but her opinion didn't count. My GP said it might not be a bad idea to try it. The Dr. Doing the sleep study said he couldn't believe I was still alive. Tried the mask and took it back after about a week. That was 10 + years ago and I'm still alive but now I do sleep with a mouth guard.
