I actually passed a test once and was told no need even though I am a major snorer. Ten years later I failed miserably, so to speak. Fell asleep in the middle of a conversation with my wife, in my workplace, etc. Changed my life using a CPAP. I feel rested, more energy, way less irritable, works for me. I use nasal pillows, cannot stand the mask, plus my beard is an issue with leakage.

OK. I am the odd one.
I had a colonoscopy. The doctor told my wife I had sleep apnea. (maybe they just gave me too much anesthesia)

I then had the sleep study done and was told I did not have sleep apnea and did not need a CPAP.

If your sleep lab & supplier is reputable, they'll get it setup right & you won't mind CPAP. It works fine for me, but did require some initial adjustments in supplies & settings.

No, it is CPAP.

Well, off to bed to try it again. I see the doctor next Monday. I will keep trying until then.

I had to spend a second night, after a full night test to determine I had sleep apnea (I had a hard time falling asleep), to get the machine set right for me.

I couldn't tolerate the one at the hospital, couple years later I tried an at home sleep study, it started at a low amount of air, then increased after you fall asleep
My wife has slept in an easy chair for a couple years now, I started sleeping in another chair next to her
I no longer wear the mask

Bingo!! They have to sell you a machine because they just spent 12 hours of their time messing with you.

Nothing but a scam. imo

That's perhaps somewhat ridiculous wissmiss. Plus they charge you plenty for that 12 hours.

Prayers sent.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Had a sleep study done after my heart attack. Second test with the mask ... They gave me something to fall asleep after over an hour of wearing it. I fell asleep for 15 minutes! Awoke in a panic, trying to tear the thing off o I could breathe. Nurse try for another half hour to get me to wear the mask again. It was a NO, No, and NO! They gave up trying and I got a good night sleep without it.

Back story: as a rookie firefighter, I had a training incident were my tank was under 100 psi before we got out of the training building ( old Scott Airpac with the regulator and gage on the belt). Never am I wearing a mask without a gage attached and visible! No longer a firefighter (retired); but will do underwater and hard water search and rescue if needed as a backup diver.

Probably not far off. Excess body weight is the biggest risk factor for sleep apnea, and 74% of the US is overweight, 43% of those who are overweight are classified as obese, about 10% are morbidly obese. Id bet that a lot of Americans have sleep apnea.

My oldest daughter had it badly when she was 3, because her tonsils were the size of grapes. She'd snore loudly and wake up sweaty and was always tired. She wouldn't eat much either, because it hurt to swallow. Removing her tonsils and adenoids cured that.

I have been using one nightly for about 6 years now. For me, the benefits far outweigh any initial discomfort.
I have found a style of mask that works for me - under the nose (does not get inserted into nostrils and does not cover mouth) - with a hose connection at the top of the head, which keeps the hose from wrapping around you if you roll over very effectively.

Just happy to be here.

That sounds very much like the system I use. While some disagree with sleep studies and CPAPs, I feel the benefits I gained from using the CPAP far outweigh the risks of not using it.

Randy trust me if you have sleep apnea you will love it. I will not go anywhere without mine. Not only I sleep better my wife does as well. I use the nasal cushions. No more waking up with a dry throat and it has helped my acid reflux.
I've been on one for roughly 15 years now. Several coworkers got tested. About half passed and half failed.
I was one of very few that got to do a split session. Most spend the night 2 times. I went to sleep around 9pm and they woke.me up at midnight then put me on the machine. They woke me up at 4am so I could go to work.
First machine lasted just over 10 years. Got a new a couple years back.

If you get one you might even be able to sleep in bed.

I have had one for about 18 years. When our power goes off it stops and I wake up and take the mask off. I bet your machine has something wrong with it or is not set right.

Just passin through

I keep seeing ads on TV for something that replaces wearing the mask altogether. Not sure how that works. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Have you ever listened to someone for quite a while and wondered...."Who ties your shoelaces for you?"

Cpap is fine just takes an adjustment. Honestly for me its all about the mask and how it positions on your face. I started with a mask that covered the mouth and nose. It was miserable. Soon went to a very lightweight nose mask and figured out tight straps are uncomfortable. Been good ever since. Rarely do I wake up in the middle of the night now.

I woke up 3 times that night and always went right back to sleep. They sent me to a medical supply place and they gave me masks and a unit. I can't sleep with the mask on. Something appears drastically different from the one they used on me at the hospital. I will fall asleep for an hour or so and then I wake up in a panic because I can't breathe. I rip the mask off and shortly I go right back to sleep. This keeps happening. Nothing changes. I don't know if I have a faulty machine if that is even possible.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Anyone have good experiences or bad experiences with CPAP.

Thanks in advance.

Do you sleep on your back, or sides ?

I have no issues if I sleep on my sides, but stop breathing,
even with the mask & bipap if I try to sleep on my back.
