I use Pathfinder II RTU, a form of Garlon 4. I'm soon in need of more. Do you prefer Garlon 3 or 4?
I was at an invasive workshop last week. They said 3 is less volatile in the hot summer & in such a scenario 3 would be safer to human health & nearby desirable foliage in summer than 4.

4 mixed w/ bark oil works @ a lower ° than my Pathfinder in winter is another thing I learned at the class. I think 28+° (probably at the time of application) is the threshold for my Pathfinder's winter effectiveness. i'm unsure how 3 works in winter

Rainfast for my Pathfinder is ~6 hours.

Whether it'd work for honeyucke I'm not sure

I don't think any Garlon is much of a concern to nearby desirable trees (the main reason it's preferred over Tordon).

AJE. I primarily use Triclopyr 4 which is the same thing as Garlon 4 to kill noxious yaupon in my neck of the woods. It has a thick cuticle and hard to kill. About only two ways to kill it; IPT it with 15% Triclopyr 4 and diesel, or braodacast (leaf spray) it with Triclopyr 4. When trying to kill tough brush during the summer the surfactant is paramount.

I use Methelated Seed Oil (MSO) for foliar applications. It has proven a game changer for me. The MSO is so oil based that it holds on the leaf very well and gets the chemical down into the root system. I use a much heavier dose of MSO than the label suggests and I think it matters. I spray noxious brush at 3% Triclopyr 4 and 3% MSO in a 25 gallon/acre water mix for foliar applications. It works very well; even in drought. It's a slow kill, but a dead kill.

A foliar based Triclopyr will not harass any of the nearby trees so long as they over 4" dbh and have a good bark on them. Seedlings and very young trees it will hurt.

I'm talking about cut stump method Chancey, not foliage spray.

I apologize Sir. When I saw nearby trees mentioned, I thought you may have been broadcasting it rather than IPT. My mistake.

I now only use Garlon 4 Ultra; it is formulated to allow road crews and foresters to work year-round- probably the best solution for your winter applications. I have experienced no effect on neighboring trees, I only saturated the cambium layer of the stump, I mix basal blue dye for cut stump and modified cut stump applications. I run blue dye and a surfactant for foliar spray application.

For stump cut buckthorn I use undiluted Crossbow. For spraying buckthorn foliage, I use diluted Crossbow. I've never had any problem with it affecting near by trees. It will kill other broad leaf plants, though. But, not grass.

More and more when I go anywhere I find myself keeping track of where the nearest rest room is.

We got away from pathway as it was not as effective in late winter and spring conditions. We went to imazapril and gallon 4 in a blue or red oil for cut stumps. Probably as good as it gets in this part of the country for cut stumps in a clear cut situation. Tordon was good but it would kill off target locust trees.

I don't think any herbicide works good on buckthorn in spring when the sap is flowing up.

Any of you ready to use garlon this winter on buckthorn? It's still warm enough on many days I could use garlon 4. I'm just about out of garlon 4 (Pathfinder II RTU) so I may by garlon 3 soon for cut trump treatment if it doesn't kill nearby desirable trees. I wish they made an easy RTU like Pathfinder II.
