depends if you need to transport them
mostly if just garden to house I let them get nice and red

perfect is when you tip them about 45 degrees no pulling and they pop off in your hand.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Both. Orange ones go in a paper bag with a couple ripe ones, and are about ready the next day

I let them vine ripen. Have 16 tomatoe plants this year. Plenty to can and eat fresh for me and the Mrs.

I don't like to let them ripen in the house because sometimes I'll have an outbreak of fruit flys. Which can be brutal as I live in a grape vineyard

Here they’re almost green as the bugs will eat them, I really like fried green tomatoes anyway so I just pick them green.

When there is a lot of rain, we pick when pink. This year was wet in July. I also have a rat that is eating the ripe ones so I have to beat it to the tomatoes.

I've been battling chipmunks. About 2 days before they are perfect, the little buggers were eating them right to the stem. Well, that only lasted about three tomatoes, then the trapper came out in me and we haven't lost one since. wink. I like them vine ripened.

I pick green to fry, some we let ripen on the vine and some we pick and let ripen on the deck railing. Eric
