Thinking of switching to finned super stakes, is it worth it? I normally run HD Berkshires with 15-16 inches of cable on coyote traps. Is the retrieving boss worth it? How long of cable do you run? The cable is partly why I’m thinking of switching out. Would I be better off just going to the original super stakes? I’m not in rocky ground most of the time. Normally I just clip and go or take the quick link off and use them as disposable. Like to hear real world experiences. Thanks

I've used them on the water line. I'm not even about to try them in our clay. I'd need a maul to drive them and I'd expect to break something. The standard superstakes are a PIA even with a pilot hole. But all that said they hold well in the muck and the retrieval boss works well. Downside an extra bit of cable to deal with and if in a trap bed it absolutely needs to be sticking up in the bed if you're to use it.

JMO but a toggle on the retrieval cable would be a very handy handle.

Guess it all depends on how you trap. If you can drive to the spot and have good soil, regular super stakes and a drill with an auger come up with ease.
If you got clay or rocks, use drags.

I love em. Especially if you move traps a lot. Just make sure the retrieval end isn't sticking up...

I have a bunch of them that they sent me one time when I ordered regular super stakes and they were out so they substituted finned ones. I've never added a retrieval cable, because I don't like cable and always make all mine with chain. That being said, I haven't noticed a difference in driving them. Driving any of them in hard clay or rocks can suck, it varies so much from one set to the next it is hard to compare.

I would say they are best when used in soft soils and Non Freezing conditions.

Always a good idea to have multiple anchoring systems available and use the best one for that location?

I’ve tried about everything there is and use wolf fangs now with 12 inches of cable. The super stakes and finned both have to beat the tar out of them to get them in the ground where I’m at. Not saying they won’t work for you just not in my soil. If you have sandy or more top soil they pry work great. We got a lot of clay.

I’ve pounded in 6” of a 12” cable and held coyotes in our clay. I only use stakes now in good soil, as in easy to drive and drill out. Everything else gets a drag.
