I'm having a bit of an emotional week. We had The Boy's biannual appointment with the nephrologist at Rochester, MN on Monday. His blood tests showed his right kidney function is down to 30% he lost the left kidney before he was a year old. So we now know he will need a kidney sometime, sooner than later. We knew this was most likely coming but still a bit of a shock to the system hearing it spoken. We don't have a time-line yet but go in next Wednesday for more tests and we will know more after that. I don't usually talk openly about family issues online but just wanted to have a release I guess. He is taking the news well on the outside not sure what he is thinking in his own quiet times but he is a strong kid and we try to keep it positive when we talk about it around him. He likes it when I tell people the Dr. said after he gets a new kidney he will have more energy and feel superhuman. He laughs every time cause I can barely keep up with him now lol. Dr. Told him he can still play sports and to be sure to stay in shape, workout and get dirty, he will need the strength and immunity when the time comes (not like anyone need to tell him to stay active). He heard get dirty as go kill pigeons in the cow pasture so that's what he has been doing every evening this week, and now is fishing/camping with grandma till Friday. She texted earlier today he has his cousins running football drills at camp.

The Dr. said puberty is the hardest times on boys kidneys and that's most likely why his function has fallen so quickly. He is at least for now a stinky, fuzzy faced and active 13 year old and hopefully the main blast of hormones is passed, if not it could really push up the time-line of needing a kidney. I go between telling myself everything is going to turn out fine and worrying it won't. Sometimes it's hard not to show him I'm worried.

Anyhow if you feel like it please say a prayer for The Boy. I know he could use it.

If you haven't met him here he is.

Choked me up but good. I have always thought very highly of The Boy. He is truly a good one.

Uncle Moosetrot is not one to pray but I wish him, you, and your family all my thoughts and strength. Please keep us updated and let us know if there's any way we can be of any help.

Please wish him my best!

Praying all goes well. I can't even imagine what you're going through. Best of luck.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Thanks everyone, he has a strong faith in God as do I, we have a long road ahead and just getting little pieces of the map at a time but we will soldier on.

To those of you who know him a special thank you from us for the thoughts and prayers.

Elsmasho to see him in person you wouldn't know either lol. He is the most active kid I know works out and exercises every day, just goes nonstop also does yard work for the neighbors and on a family friends farm, he is constantly running football and wrestling drills, making costumes, writing scripts for his "movies", constantly improving his ghillie suit as well as hunting or fishing every chance he gets. He just dosen't stop till he sleeps then it's go time again the next day lol.

He should be strong enough to take on any challenge but I still fear for him. I guess like any dad would.

Hoping for a good outcome, they’re good there at Rochester I’ve known more than one person that’s been there for kidney problems and they’re still going strong.
