I decided to wait until saturday to bait. Two granddaughters got licenses in 51 and with the rain and wet woods I didnt want them being miserable. I just hope any competition doesnt bait where I usually do, I hate to lose even one good spot.

I noticed while baiting yesterday there is a LOT of berries where I hunt. Saw lots of places where the bears were eating them, lots of berry bushes were trampled down. Didn't see many hazelnuts or acorns though.

We had NO chokecherries or June Berries this year. There are a few hazelnuts but less than usual. The Red Oaks are already dropping acorns which seems early. There are more Black Berries than I have ever seen. Dad and I picked today and the bushes are LOADED and they are everywhere. Next time we go I am wearing my chainsaw chaps. Those things sure shred clothing.
Why doesn’t baiting bear get nasty remarks like baiting deer does? What’s the difference?
Lots of difference. If we couldn't bait here in Minnesota, there would be few bears shot. They just dont come out into the open very often, they hang out in the thickest timber, brush, and swamps in the state. About the only time they do come out into the open is when they're raiding crops. Our success rate even with baiting is under 50%, havent seen the actual percentage lately but it used to be only around 30%.
