I am always shocked when people say they don't like to catch or eat bass. Both are great in my mind. You did good.

Nice haul, I always liked to eat bass. Apparently there is no catch limit on bass in Illinois.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

What would you compare bass to, taste wise?

I've tried it 2x in 47 years and it tasted like mud both times.

I've always wondered. Don't see many people keeping them around here.

Crappie. To me they taste basically the same. Cut a bass and crappie into square pieces the same size and thickness and fry them, they'll be identical in flavor and texture

Nice job!

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

Small bass are good. Big bass not so much.
Put them straight on ice when ya catch them helps a bunch also.
I love having some bass pro’s watch me sink a knife in one lol.

If Illinois is like Missouri, there’s no limit on a private pond. Limits only apply on waters of the state.

We have a few ponds like that where we have to thin once a year. Normally about 40+ from one pond and over 20+ for the others. We end up having some rather large fish fry’s with some left over to take home.

I fillet and skin them. Then we cut the fillets at an angle, making thin, small slices, We fry them up crisp like Bluegills and the taste is very similar.

Small bass are just fine table fare.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

I bleed mine. They have a milder taster. The filets are whiter.
