Profiling because of a questionare? Yep that's what jury selection is all about in a nutshell. And it should be.

They profiled people to go thru the interview process.IMO listening to certain people that were questioned they could have had bias toward the defendant because of thier profile and interview.Of course this is the process of the interview. Those people that were interviewed were not randomly chosen for the interview. My question is who profiled them? They fit what the state and possibly the defense though they should choose? Being the first time for me on jury duty I had no idea this was the process nor would they tell me when I asked.I assumed the pool who were randomly chosen would get interviewed to see who would work best for the jury on both sides. That was not the case.

So they knew ahead of time that the one person was a retired police officer yet she was chosen to be one of the 28 interviewed.Of course they did not choose her but why would you even profile her to be interviewed in the first place ?

Was being selected, we were warned it was likely we would be sequestered, and when asked, I had to beg off because one of my Beagles was due to whelp any time, which she did, 2 days later. Dodged a bullet, the trial lasted 1-1/2 YEARS, when one of the lawyers said something stupid that caused a mistrial!

They absolutely pick based on the outcome they are looking for. That's what they're supposed to do. They are supposed to get the best outcome possible for their client. The first time I had to appear for jury duty, it was an OWI case. The county attorney asked if anyone dealt with law enforcement on a regular basis. Several people put up their hand. I was one of them. When he got to me, I told him that as a paramedic, I have frequent contact with law enforcement. I then mentioned that my oldest son is a cop. Needless to say, I got booted.

About 7 or 8 years ago, I served on a civil trial jury. We had to fill out a questionnaire before the trial. They asked marital status. I answered that I was a widower. My wife had died at the age of 51. I'm sure that the plaintiff's attorneys thought that I would be more open to a big cash settlement for his client. I ended up as foreman of the jury. The school district being sued offered a lot more money than we awarded. The widow didn't come back as very sympathetic, and it felt like a money grab. She should have taken the offer that the school district made. It cost her 800,000 dollars and she then had to pay the lawyers out of the money we awarded.

Never understood why people would drag off being on a jury, then turn around and complain about the person in the jury being guilty or not, LOL, they don't have a clue really. Yes the lawyers all have someone in mind the first time they see you, regardless of any number you are given or five or six called at a time, and as soon as you answer a question your demeanor doing so will either get you to the next level or out the door.

Best way to understand a jury is to be called to be on one, regardless of you liking it or not, one should educate them selves
to how they work, no it's not a paying job it's a service we all should do at least once. No it's not a party either, especially if it turns into a long ending nightmare, however it is worth the learning process, to know it's nothing like a movie !

I would say those who don't serve and then something happens and they have to have a jury trial, think about not serving the whole time that they have to listen to the lawyers argue your case to the jury, it might give one some bit of thought what we are supposed to do when called to serve !
