Coffee filter or wax paper.

Thanks, Yukon. I’m new to the coyote sets. I started trapping last year with beaver. Gonna try some coyotes this year.

Any #2 size screen will work too.

Guess with y’all’s freeze thaw issues y’all can’t use a little polyfil under the pan and pest moss as covering?

Wax paper will only cause you grief, it will trap moisture and cause an ice ball to form under your pan. Get some landscape cloth or coffee filters or learn to use peat . Or given your location learn to use the pipe dream bedding method.

Get yourself a bale of peat moss and get it dried out. Bone dry peat will handle a good amount of bad weather. Or go to a hardware store buy some black window screen one roll will make you hundreds of pan covers.

I’ve gone to all peat, when done right it’s hard to beat, but it comes with a learning curve. But anything coyote trapping does , get together with the best coyote trapper you know and plan to spend a couple days at least.

I use the little paper cupcake wrappers for a pan cover. I got the idea from Mr. Gary Jepson and I've never heard of anybody else using them.

They work about as well as coffee filters but neither of them lay very well over the pan, at least not near as well as the landscape fabric. Send me a PM and I will get you some to try.

I've chimed in a time or two on this subject. I've used everything and still like the landscape fabric the best. It lets water through and 9 times out of 10 I can use them over and over again. Usually they are setting just outside the catch circle in perfect condition ready to be used again. Sometimes if you happen to catch a coon, they will shred them. I store them between two pieces of cardboard in a ziploc bag which does a great job keeping them flat and dry. Best of luck to you !

Is there any air out time on the landscape fabric. Or just cut it ,put it between two pieces of cardboard in a ziploc bag.

I’ve gone to stiff metal screen I get from Marty Smith or John Graham. The Marty Smith screen is heavy and stiff. It makes the entire area between the jaws effectively into a wide pan.

The John Graham pan screen is lighter and more like aluminum screen. But it accomplishes the same thing.

I cut a strip to width, wash it and let it dry and air out before cutting it to length. Then I stack them and bag'm.

Dry and sifted peat moss with no pan cover. I've tried it all but that is what I always come back to...
