Cedar..... Cedar smells fantastic. Redwood smells good.
Keith Unless you were a roofer in Southern CA in the the years up to the 80's,,,,,then it smelled like money....... I sill like the smell of a hot tar Kettle...... Old cedar has little smell after a the oils are gone.

I'm sort of a western red cedar nut. That actually could be older interior red cedar (eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana). West of the Cascades of Oregon, Washington, B.C., and SE Alaska the difference between old growth and second growth is so remarkable that it is hardly similar. Old growth can have as many as 50 rings per inch, whereas I've seen second growth with rings nearly 3/4 of an inch wide. OG is beautiful and rot resistant, SG not so much

Interesting info. Vinke that is beautiful stand of redwoods, I'm impressed. The cedar I was given I sided the shack with it. I will oil it down next spring and try to maintain it as long as I can. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/08/full-23688-227265-img_4204.jpg)

Western Red Cedar would be my bet. The two smell different when cut. This!
