Just set them if they’re clean. Ain’t ever had a coyote complain about a pretty shiny bracelet.

^^^ Amen ^^^
Don’t put anything on them you haven’t tried before, especially on a paid job.
Pressure wash and go !

I'm more worried about the trap than the coyotes as they just came out of the baths

Wax'm and set'm if you feel the need. Otherwise like others have said, if they're clean, set'm.

Sat many that werent typically clean.....when i worked as a trapper for gf and p in s.d. many times we got new shiny traps in and I just threw in in the goose pond overnight and set the next day on killer coyote complaint and bam,,,,1st night catch. I have done the same with a trap that caught a coyote and ran short of what most call clean...just used the dirty trap and bam....problem solved. A shiny trap isnt going to be hurt by a coyote any more than a dyed or waxed trap is. Wash it off and set if you dont have time to treat it. Same with nuisance killer jobs in Ohio. I didnt get paid if I didnt solve the problem was my approach and my living depended on catching and I did similar things. I also didnt charge for non targets...but then I very seldom caught them due to choice of locations, lure, trap.

Dye it if anything. Otherwise set em.

So no answers to the question.

Last thing im worried about is the coyotes smelling the trap. This is about protecting 20-40 dollar traps.

If you stripped the oil of them, they're gonna rust in the ground for sure. That said, it'll make the dye or dip stick good when you eventually treat em.

So undercoat em if you feel the need. Think I'd use regular old spray paint before I'd do the thick rubbery undercoating stuff though if your just looking to protect them. That said, I'd logwood them over all of the above.

Yeah i ended up putting the undercoat back on the shelf as I thought the stuff wasnt rubberized(small lettering). Ended up getting tractor and implement spray paint.
