When a mother raccoon enters an attic to have a litter...what is your best guess to the timeframe of when she initially enters it, to when she gives birth? I'm sure this varies, but wanted the veteran NWCOs thoughts on this. Thanks.

Probably not much help but my take, around here....most complaints range from about a week to two weeks. Kits start sounding off about a week AFTER the first noises are heard and initial detection has occurred.Time line just kind of depends. In heavily populated areas detection seems to occur rather quickly due to MORE EYES on the homes..ie. neighbors looking and seeing animal activity and smaller properties. So calls for help occur quicker. In the country, lots of renters and rural folks just get use to animals and issues...put things off. Slower to act. By the time NWCO gets the call, kits are born, damage is done to area and the works begins....

I'm not sure of this time frame, however, after a few of this type of call this year, the kits start to leave at about 10 weeks. I caught four kits at one location and then discovered the mother dead between floors of the house.

This may or may not be of any help, but I have two kits on video leaving an attic last night. It must be 130 degrees in there during the day. I'm sure they are in a wall void down in an air conditioned room.
