We have real bacon, it's called bacon. We also have Canada's version, it's called ham.

As I recall, if you buy bait up there now you need to keep the receipt as proof it was purchased there. There are some restrictions on where bait can be transported INSIDE Canada as well but I don't remember all the details.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Seen a YouTube video some guys took bait to another state and the COs said they could not have it don’t think it was live bait either I don’t fish much so it was not a priority at the time.

There are some restrictions on where bait can be transported INSIDE Canada as well but I don't remember all the details. Yeah, I have some buddies that trap minnows commercially up there. They get "minnow blocks" to trap from the ministry. Ministry doesn't want minnows trapped and sold from lakes with known invasive species ect. They also don't like non residents trapping minnows and using them wherever. Just more control IMO.

I know "a guy" that hung a minnow trap off the end of the dock at a remote Canadian lake. They were getting a quart of BEAUTIFUL Spot Tail shiners twice a day. Every hit they would loose a minnow and plastics ended up out fishing them easily. This was in cold water, early/mid June though. Deep summer walleyes are far more finicky.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Seems I remember in the late 80's early 90's the only minnow you could use was a frozen one, or a dried one. Seem to remember the locals saying each lake had just northern pike , or walleye, or perch in them. Nothing else. Never checked it out , but do remember one lake I tried seemed to be nothing but northern pike. I fished the big lake, that was in the Ottawa river system . Walleye, northern pike and Pearch were caught. Don't remember anything else being caught.. Never heard of trout of any type there. Might be the worm ban is because of the invasive worms . Many non-native earthworms are invasive species that can harm forests and ecosystems in the United States: Asian jumping worms: These worms are native to southeast Asia and have been spreading across the United States since the late 19th century. They can be found in the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, and some Northwestern states. They can also be found in gardens and forests, and can survive underwater for over 20 minutes. They are also known as Alabama jumpers, Jersey wrigglers, wood eels, snake worms, and crazy snake worms. https://canadainvasives.ca/jumping-worms/#:~:text=The%20three%20most%20invasive%20species%2C%20Amynthas%20agrestis%2C%20Amynthas%20tokioensis%2C,%2C%20and%20New%20York%2C%20respectively.

Use to get $50 for a thousand crawlers back in the 80's. IIRC, a 5 gallon bucket was around 5,000 worms. Dad's neighbor is still a worm dealer. I believe he has to go to canada to get most of them, for we won't pick crawlers anymore.
