I looked online at MREs and couldn't believe the price of them these days. I see where they are $10 - 12 per meal. Are they that much better than in the old days, or is it just inflation causing the high price?

I looked into MRE and dried foods it’s nuts what they want for a bag of spiced carbs. Once I look at the ingredients most don’t appeal to me anyway. The individual meals are 10-14 bucks but they claim 2 portions on the package. I wanted to get away from cooking in the camper but it looks like I’ll be doing some microwave cooking and cereal/fruit breakfast meals.

Loved that chicken-ala-king back in Desert Storm. The Ham Slice was my favorite but Chicken Ala Kitty wasn't bad. We got a bunch of surplus ones from the first Gulf War. When you opened the cases it was like they were packed with silica sand and it had worn all the writing off the meals. If was a real surprise to see what you got when you opened one.
I have nothing clever to put here.

We had C Rations when I was in the army. My favorite was the ham and lima beans. Never had any problem trading with anybody for them. Think I had the bean and weenie once I could not tell if I was biting into a bean or apiece of hotdog .

My favorite C ration was the ham and eggs chopped. Those old C-rats also had a four pack of cigarettes. They could be Pall Malls, Chesterfields, and some others that I don't recall.

Me to Paul, looked like Alpo but tasted pretty good. Most didn't like it so I traded for it, used cigs for trade of peaches, fruit cocktail and nut roll and hot chocolate.
