My favorite C ration was the ham and eggs chopped. Those old C-rats also had a four pack of cigarettes. They could be Pall Malls, Chesterfields, and some others that I don't recall. Remember those cigarette 4 packs...Uncle was a Marine drill sargent during Vietnam, and brought a bunch home. He was a scout leader in the early 70's, so us boy scouts got to eat the C-rats and swipe the cigarettes for some late night smokes, Lol....He had to know, but he wanted boys to be boys and probably got a good laugh out of that.

I still have a case of C-rats in storage. Right beside my case of Celebrity canned bacon. My uncle would bring a can of Celebrity bacon to Elk Camp every year. Finally I asked him why he keeps buying that every year, we never eat it. He said "I don't buy it every year, its the same can". LOL

I am a peanut butter lover but the C-rats had horrible tasting PB if such a thing exists and yes they came with the 4 mini packs of cigs that I always traded off and a handy dandy P-39 opener. The LORPS were much better but no one seems to know anything about them now a days......jk They are P-38s,,and are so named because it takes 38 twists of the can opener to get the can opened.I keep one on my key chain.

The question I have is,.....
What date past the expiration date, would you eat them?
Kind of like canned food. If it looks and smells alright, I will eat it. Expiration dates are "suggestions" to get you to throw it out and buy a new one. I just found a yogurt in the back of the fridge that expired 04/2021 and if it smells alright I am going to eat it.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Never had any MRE's but they have to be better than c-ration ham and lima beans. Can't use the moniker we called them 50 plus years ago.

"Let's get this out onto a tray!" The question I have is,.....
What date past the expiration date, would you eat them?

I just found a yogurt in the back of the fridge that expired 04/2021 and if it smells alright I am going to eat it. I think the rule of thumb is that you know canned goods have gone bad when the can starts bulging. Bulging is a sign of something nasty growing within.

Spaghetti was a favorite when I was in. It came with a pack of M&M's. When I was etsing, the army was transitioning from dark brown bags to tan bags. The tan ones were very good.

I keep a few mres in my pickup. If you have to camp in one for whatever reason a little food and water is nice to have.
