Some of you may remember a few months ago when I was talking about a 10x20 shed that I would move and use as my new fur shed. Well, some life stuff like car accidents and work got in the way, so that delayed it. About halfway through July, I built my 12x20 skid since the building was a little bigger than 10' wide. When talking to a family friend about moving said shed and having him take a look at it, he told us it would be wise to just start fresh and build it the way we want. With that advice, me and my dad began to price one out and it was way cheaper than we thought and made us feel kind of dumb that we didn't do that from the beginning. Well, a week ago today, we broke ground on this project. We started by framing the walls and getting the skid moved in place to comply with the city code. Now the walls are put, the door is framed, and the purlins are all on. Now we're just waiting for the trusses to be here next week on Tuesday. We're making sure it's very overbuilt so it'll last a very long time. Here are the dimensions for the building. It's going to be 12x20 with an 8' sidewall and I estimate another 3-4' up into the rafters which makes it perfect to use a skinning machine. This is a huge upgrade from my little 7x8x8 shed that I was using before. Anyways, here's the picture of the progress thus far.

Looking good. You might think about that other shed for trap storage, stinky stuff or many other things you never have enough room or the need to separate traps from odors.
I move my 13X40 shed over to my place on a buddies stack mover.

I move my 13X40 shed over to my place on a buddies stack mover. I have that shed and another one, probably going to keep one of the 2 old sheds and use it for storage. I also have that little alley between the garage and the shed that I'm going to store stuff in.

Looks good, our shack is the same idea but a little bigger and 2x6 framing. Insulate and vapour barrier the skid, walls and roof really good too. A candle will be able to heat that thing in winter.

Lighting is expensive look into Amazon LED lights I hear good things about them just bought a pack of 8 footers to try out myself. You get 10 lights for the price of a few fluorescent fixtures.

I am guessing you are going to tin the building? do your best to mouse prof.... Yes, we are going to tin it. We're tinning it how one of our family friends said to do it. We shouldn't have any mice issues as we live in town and have never had a mouse issue around our place. And if we do, it's usually only 1 or 2.

YT, looking good. That little alleyway is going to be full of snow. I figured it would be but I plan to put the stuff like my live traps and stuff I don't need often or can stay outside in it and snow blow out the rest.

We're going to go this year with no insulation in the skid since we just don't have the time but I will be capping the ends of it with lumber to keep wind from getting under it. The rest of the shed will be insulated very well though.

We have some that are 4ft with the bulbs and fixtures and you can daisy chain them together in our garage that we bought for 10$ a piece and plan on putting those in there but I'll look at amazon.

Looks like great progress! My friend had his home spray foamed insulated when he remodeled and I swear you could heat that thing with the warmth of a match. Your building but I’d never put a window or a door with a window. Easy access for thieves! You have to have lights to see anyway. I love having windows to look out of. Otherwise it's like being in a jail cell lol. If he's worried about thieves, he could just weld washers to rebar and lag bolt them from the inside of the windows for bars. I couldn't imagine having to worry about that, but I guess some people do.

Spray foam is expensive but a great idea. If done right, keeps draft, bugs, mice out. 2 suggestions. Make sure to have a decent overhang on eaves and gable ends. Consider an (outswing) door instead of standard in swing. Give you a few more options .
Looking forward to seeing you proceed.

You can always put smoke of one way mirror film on the windows. I would make sure to seal coat the bottom of your door threshold or it will rot out in just a few short years. Spray foam is well worth the cost.

I couldn't imagine having to worry about that, but I guess some people do. We're getting a couple of other quotes from other spray foam guys but the first one quoted us 3000$ to do the walls and the ceiling. IMO that's way too much for what this building is so if the other quotes are like that then I'm going to go with batts. I love windows too, my other fur shed has none and it's terrible.

Looking forward to seeing you proceed. Our overhang is set at the of our rafters, I wish it had a bit more because there's no overhang so that's a little different but I don't know much. I went with an inswing door because I don't know how this area is going to drift and I'd rather not get stuck in the fur shed if its windy outside in the winter. The first quote was 3000$ for a 12x20x8 building with the ceiling. One of our family friends had a guy do his 36x40 for 6000$ so we're looking around for different spray foam guys.

Get the roof on, a source of heat next and a power cord and you can work on it anytime then. Root first rain can do a lot of damage. You’re on the right track doing the same here it’s rewarding when you finish a goal and move on to the next one keep up the good work.

Got the roof on today, just need the ridgecap, all of the corner tin on and some other weatherproofing on the inside, and then it's all closed up.

I don’t know the costs but $3000 to spray that thing is nutz! They guys probably too busy and doesn’t want it. Just ploy inside, batts and Tyvac on the outside……by the looks of it, too late for the tyvac on the outside…lol Looks good!

Spray foam, Get a froth pack and do it yourself. I just did my kitchen walls and it is not that difficult. That size one or two packs would do it.

Glad you got your roof on. Around here rooff goes on before sides. Looks great We had 16ft or so pieces of tin so we were going to use the off cuts for the roof, that's why we did the walls first.

Poly the inside with caulk on the joints and outlets. I’d do the same for the floor too.

looks good, spray foam anywhere that a mouse could get in, Yep, everything is spray foamed, and taped. Shouldn't be any drafts coming in.

Nice, what cha' going to do for heat? We're thinking of doing a diesel heater or a propane heater. At least 10,000 btus, we've talked to some guys about it.

Good looking shed! Looks like its built well. We over built everything on it, from the skid to the roof.

After many fur sheds in my life you will find out within a couple years you wish it was bigger. Best things in a fur shed water, 2 types of heat and good light always like window for early morning light and last light. Last one I did had solar tubes for natural light and very little heat loss. Good job though and bet your ready to skin something. The outside of the building is dark and should soak up a lot of heat and then there will be a heater inside. I would love to have water but maybe in the future when I get my own place.

Looks good . How big did you end up making it ? It's 12x20 with an 8 ft sidewall.

No water??? get it in with a French drain no water is a killer a small wood stove would not take much to heat that to the point of uncomfortable. I even burn beaver and coon carcasses once I have a good fire stack them like cord wood. Just watch out they put out a lot of heat. I had a wood stove in the last one and I find it so hard to regulate the heat and it's more of a pain than I would like to deal with. I would rather spend more time fur handling than stoking a fire. I don't have very many uses for water but I can always haul a bucket in if I need it.

I don't have very many uses for water but I can always haul a bucket in if I need it. I agree Youth Trapper. Building fires is a PITA to me. I heat my house and camp with wood. At home, I build a fire in late October and usually keep that same fire burning until mid-March. On warmer days I'll just open windows. The only time let it go out is if we're having an extended period of really warm days near 70. That's how much I dislike building new fires. That's also the main reason I'm not putting a woodstove in the new fur shed I'm building. My granddaughter and I have a routine; we run the line early, come back and hang whatever fur we caught in the shed. We turn on the heater, go have breakfast and head back to the fur shed. By that time it's warm in there. We skin and board, turn the heater off then I go to work and she goes to school. Building a fire every morning would be a hassle. Then you'd have to stay there to tend it until it got going good. That just wouldn't work with us, time is already too short in the mornings. Turning on the gas heater and heading for breakfast does work with our schedules. Plus, as you mentioned, a woodstove wood make regulating the temp inside difficult. I suspect even a small woodstove would blast you out of the shed. We use a Blueflame propane heater. They do put moisture in the air but I've been doing it for decades with no issues. Electric heat doesn't put moisture in the air but it's expensive to run and you'd have to size your electrical system to handle it.
Eh...wot?
