It would be cool if we could see everyone's ideas here:

Please post: Trapping methods for acquiring the most amount of squirrels (kill only).

Handicap: No setting a #1 on a limb for it to run over. Yes, that would be the best method in times of self-reliance (Thank you Meat Trapper Tim) but I'm not hanging a squirrel upside down for hours if it's not -time.

Starter: Your examples will likely include the use of 110 bodygrips.

For the purpose of: Understanding how to put the same or more squirrels than using a .22, in my belly should they turn off the lights at some point in the future but not today.

Legal: I would never propose, and have not proposed or encouraged to trap squirrels in a state where trapping was not legal. This thread is only a thought exercise.

------------------------------------------------------------
Extra Stuff:

Chat GPT told me these were the squirrel trapping laws per state, if anyone was interested. I will assume they are either true or false and I really don't care either way:

--START GPT

Alabama: Squirrel hunting is legal during the open season, typically from October through February. Trapping squirrels usually requires a special permit.

Alaska: Red squirrels can be trapped, but other species may be protected. Trapping season typically runs from November to February.

Arizona: Hunting and trapping of certain squirrel species are permitted during designated seasons, usually from October to December.

Arkansas: Squirrel hunting season generally runs from May to February. Trapping is usually allowed but requires a furbearer license.

California: Tree squirrels are protected, and a permit is needed for trapping. However, ground squirrels are classified as pests and can be hunted year-round.

Colorado: Squirrels can be hunted during the designated small game season. Trapping often requires a furbearer license.

Florida: Squirrel hunting season typically runs from October through March. Trapping may be allowed with a specific permit.

Georgia: The hunting season for squirrels usually runs from August to February. Trapping is legal but may require a furbearer license.

Michigan: Squirrel hunting is allowed during the season, generally from September to March. Trapping may be allowed with a permit.

New York: Squirrel hunting season typically runs from September through February. Trapping usually requires a special license.

Ohio: Squirrel hunting season generally runs from September through January. Trapping is legal but often requires a permit.

Texas: Squirrel hunting is allowed during the designated seasons, and some species may be hunted year-round. Trapping may require a special permit.

Wisconsin: Squirrel hunting season typically runs from September through January. Trapping is allowed but requires a furbearer license.

Chatgtp is wrong in it's laws in at least one state. If I seriously wanted to trap squirrels, id basically be running a dry land coon trail line with 5x5s if we're talking about trapping the wood lot behind the house, any downed log is getting traps.

Downed log is a good one, I wasn't thinking in that way.

I take it you mean a survival situation: Can't worry about the laws in a time where laws do not exist anymore.

To keep it quiet: Pellet rifle/pistol, blow gun. sling shot, sling, bow & arrow, deadfall.

Trapping only? Whatever it takes to get the Coon, so to speak!

Assuming you have peanuts, a peanut threaded into the trigger wire of a 110 will get every one.

Neat, thanks! I wonder if this will work for greys?

A vertical log leaning against the tree is also a hotspot for hanging snares or 110s, Most years I do just that, it’s legal here just have to watch the daily limit which is very easily meet in a couple of early predawn morning hours, and while your out setting and tending some squirrel traps might as well set a few rabbit traps/snares as well

I’ve actually done this with red squirrels and you want to set on 8 inch logs that the top is the size of a 110 and you hammer 3 nails in and then wait, there are some days when the squirrels don’t run but then they run like crazy and you get a big catch. Note: don’t set on big logs or you might catch a coon

Also the logs can be on the ground leading no where, I caught most my squirrels on those types of logs for whatever reason
