As stated above. The piece attached to the frame that also holds the dog has two places you can bend that will resolve your issue. By raising the bottom or flat portion you raise the level of the dog. By bending the upright section where the dog is attached you also raise the level of the dog but you also put the dog closer to the pan notch. If that gets too long you can grind off the end of the dog to fit. If it were me I would lift the level of the dog enough so the dog sits level and not have to bend the dog down a bit as I believe it is easier to set the pan tension you want by doing that.

Maybe you'd have enough hand strength to bend traps if you made more sammiches grin

I’m having a terrible time. Soon as I got the pan level it wouldn’t fire. Too close. I’m putting this one away for a while before I throw it in the koi pond.

Anytime you mess with the dog, it's a constant battle till you get everything right again. If you choose to eliminate the floppiness of the dog, you'll have to adjust things all over again or simply just cut the dog down.

Looking at that last Pic Smash, I'd clean up the end of that pan notch and dog.
Glad you got it resolved.

Besides that, I would square up the pan and dog ends. If you look closely at yours, especially, from what I can see, the pan, see how the end of it's kinda rounded? You want it more like this pic. This pic isn't of a fully adjusted trap, but it shows what I mean by squaring it up.

Or you can do what i do, say screw it, throw it against the wall, and leave it there until you wax it the night before trapping season, then cuss it all season for not being properly adjusted, lol.

i was wondering when someone was going to mention night-latching. All my land traps are night-latched.
