Has anyone had experience trying to trap any animal using a mirror?

Meaning, what would happen if you put coyote-sized mirror behind a trap (or any animal), theoretically speaking?

(I am not referring herein to using reflectors/CDs to catch cats; different question)

Have seen big mirrors used in corral-type hog traps. They work on hogs. They come to the door and see "another hog" staring at them and walk or charge in.

Don’t most critters see themselves when they stick their face in water for a drink?

With all the tutorials and whatnot on youtube I would think someone would have tried this with a bunch of types of animals.

I don't know what all they would be good for, but a mirror at the back of a cage trap at a drumming site will catch a ruffed grouse every time.

If its wide enough you can hold a road runners attention long enough to prolly throw a cast net over it or get it to step on a pan but they don't weigh much. Sliding patio doors will hang them up for at least 10 minutes at a time. They make my armadillo herd look like little armored Einsteins.

I know two guys who have had some success with them in a cage trap for otter.

I read about using a small mirror at the back of a pocket set for mink. Never tried it, but I did find an old compact at the recycling center once with the mirror in good shape. Put it in my water trapping stuff, it broke on me. :-(

It would probably work on a narcissistic animal. With low fur prices maybe one could set up a counseling service to help them break the cycle of love bombing, devaluation and finally discard.

Right now in all the election hype might be a good time to avoid mirrors altogether, lol.

Friend of mine had some kids and they wanted a pet goat. Well, they got a cute little half sized goat. Kept him in the house and everything. One day he saw himself in the picture window and head butted it to smithereens. That was not a good thing, but he was a pet after all. So they reasoned if they kept the curtains closed so he couldn't see himself they would stay his sentence. Things went fine for a few weeks, then one day he was out side and saw him self and it was a repeat as before. So some plywood fixed that right up and then the pet couldn't do any damage.

Things went along for a while longer and a lady from church stopped by for a visit. Low and behold they looked out and there was that goat on the hood of the lady's new car head butting himself in the windshield.

Next mishap for the goat was at a barbeque, and I won't go into detail but we'll just say he was the guest of honor !

New dog runs into her doppelgänger often looking out the window and the mirror really gets her going. I’ve heard of cat trappers using mirrors in the back of cages before never tried it.

I stay up and night trying to find a way to keep squirrels out of my deer corn piles. Have considered placing short mirrors near the corn in hopes that squirrels might be scarred away but deer would be too tall to see their reflection. Doubt Mr. Squirrel would stay away long.
