are you asking about a hammer drill or a ROTO hammer in hammer only mode

I don't just pointing out they are two different tools

a hammer drill spins all the time

a roto hammer in hammer only mode is used to drive grounding rods all the time which is just an series of 4, 6 or 8 foot stakes depending on location and number.

They are used to make a pilot hole to put the anchor in. Not drive the anchor into the ground

If I had a battery powered one I would, but I'm not buying one for that sole purpose. My roto hammer weighs about 20 lbs. Not to mention 15a/120v

Can't imagine the connection point holding up especially against hard ground.

Seen one in action and yes no swinging of a hammer involved but that’s about the only pro I seen from it. The ground around here varies within 6 ft of each set. Nice field dirt it drove them in fine but rockier ground that thing made you wish you had a hammer and driver takes much longer imo plus the vibration still fatigued his arms as quick as me using my hammer and driver. Also hammer and driver go nice in the bag them big bulky things not so much plus your still carrying a digging device around as well may as well just have the hammer and digger in one device. But everyone has there way of doing things what works for one doesn’t the other.

I got the idea from an electrician who modified one for putting it 6' grounding rods.
I personally went back to a hammer and rebar to make a pilot hole for my Berkshires

There is a staking system I came up with a few years ago that works good for me.i wrote about it on here a few years back.not to many people seemed interested in it.i didnt post pictures of it then tho.after using this staking method for a while now, there is no way I could ever go back to pounding in rebar or cables.i have used this method in rocky ground and it works well.but occasionally I encounter ground that is extremely rocky and hard pack.thats when I use a drag.that type of ground is too hard to get rebar or cables in anyways.

I have used my cordless 1/2 inch mid torque about 400foot pounds impact wrench to drive anchors

I was trapping a farm and I wanted to anchor traps in an old cow yard that had been covered in concrete , it was busted up concrete with a lot of it under a couple inches of dirt

not what you are asking but I have seen people cross steak with long lag bolts and driver

I don't use any gun to drive earth anchors into ground just a 4lb hammer.

Yes, I have a superstake driver from Tom Stalker that fits into my hammer drill to drive stakes.

It works about 25% of the time around here.

In a perfect world, drill your pilot hole, insert anchor, and drive into the ground with the driver bit on a hammer drill

In the real world, when you start driving your superstake in with the hammer drill and hit any real resistance, like hard ground or rock, the hammer drill doesn't have the guts to keep driving, so you have to pull your bit out

You would think you could slide a traditional style driver in the hole and finish driving the stake, but most of the time dirt falls in the hole and good luck getting the driver back in your superstake correctly.

Ends up with you pulling the stake and then doing it over again with a hammer

If you only trapped in tilled fields with no hard ground or rock it would probably work great. Probably work great in sand too. But no good for any clay, rock, or hard ground

Gotta live up to the nickname...
