I know several that have left teaching and don't miss it, at least one more looking for options to finish out her retirement. My mom retired 2 years ago. She couldn’t believe how bad the school system had gotten and kids in the last 2 years prior to retirement. She used to love her job but couldn’t take it anymore. I loved teaching it was fun and rewarding and I would love to go back but anyone who has dealt with the school system lately or has just been paying attention knows the current situation in schools sucks to put it mildly, nowadays I drive a school bus and get to interact with the kids and it’s almost as enjoyable and pays ok, and I don’t have to deal with the school system or the BS on the teacher’s union part

My wife taught for 24 years in public school, now teaches in a government institution, much less stress and she feels safer. Eric Isn't a public school a government institution? What sort of facility is it that your wife now teaches at?

My oldest son taught high school history and coached the baseball team. Quit after 2 years and works as a welder now. Makes double his teacher salary and doesn’t have to deal with the parents and kids and an administration that doesn’t look out for them.

I know of a teacher who quit teaching because there had gotten to be so many Muslim kids in the schools he was teaching in. He said they were rude such as refusing to turn off their cell phones during class, texting in class, talking in class, etc. He said the final straw for him was when one of the girls told him, "This is America. We can do whatever we want." He and some of the other teachers went to the school board and were told their hands were tied and it was a difficult issue.

Friend of mine retired as soon as he was able, said the system is shot full of libtards, and he couldn't stand it anymore.

It is rare to see a teacher in my district make it past 55. Everyone gets out as soon as they officially can. Bryce nailed it - we are heading for a crisis in teacher retention and recruitment.

Loved my 34 years as an Agriculture teacher. Have loved my 13 years of retirement more. At least as an Agriculture teacher I was an elective so I told kids if you don’t like it get out. Had a very supportive administration even though I had 11 different principals in that 34 years. Small rural ag country is changing also though with loss of respect and parents whose kids can do no wrong. Still manage the schools greenhouses so get to interact with kids that generally are enjoying a hands on learning experience.
