Is there any use for the huge pumpkins besides decoration, competition and animal fodder?

Probably all that extra daylight in the summer helps with growing pumpkins in Alaska. I know onions, which are light sensitive, do well there.

I started researching growing large pumpkins as kind of a hobby for me and my young son since he has taken an interest in the garden. It was crazy how much a seed or two from a proven large pumpkin breed would bring. We settled for growing a pumpkin patch of regular pumpkins this year, but I definitely want to try to grow a big one sometime

I thought our pumpkins did well this year,we're probably about 2000 pounds lighter than that record!

If you like to garden, growing large pumpkins can be a lot of fun. As for seeds being expensive they are but I seem to buy a few each year just to watch them grow.

biggest pumpkin that I ever grew was just shy of 400 pounds

1294 is what this years pumpkin was at the state fair, I’ve never got into it, here the guys take it pretty seriously but they’re willing to share tips and seed with people to keep the competition going.

What I find almost as amazing as the weight, is what it takes to move the dang things to get them to the weigh-in!

And as someone above asked: Then what the heck do you do with the thing? I guess use it to drop on a rogue coyote or your mother-in-law?!!!

At the big pumpkin weigh in I went to, people hollow out the hugh ones and have a boat race with them. Always a big crowd pleaser. Hard not to paddle in a circle
