I've been hunting on these driven hunts for wild boar and red stag with my old pre-64 Model 70's for years now and finally caved and wanted a semi-auto rifle. I liked the way it came to my shoulder and the sight picture, so now it is mine. We shoot the roe deer with shotguns so I'm happy with that.

[Linked Image] It's a Browning BAR4 in 30-.06. I bought some Norma 180 grain pills for it.

Bolt actions for a follow up shot are a pain when the game is running and this thing comes to my face like my favorite shotgun.

In a few hours, I'll feel something in my spine if Wolfdog sees that somebody bought such a boring caliber, but i"m trying to calculate how much it would cost to get him and his wife to come to France with all his stuff and cook up some kind of .30 cal load that shoots like my 220 Swift, so I could kill a running pig at 2000 yards. I have to check my bank balance. They sell chicken ramen here, so I know she'd have no problem with French food.

I had a big zero on archery roe bucks this year due to a pulled back muscle and only calling in does and yearlings, but still had some great times in the woods.

Good luck to all.

Cash and carry. Simpler than the US. Show a hunting license and you're good to go.

Can't tell me how much this made me smile
grin beautiful rifle and great caliber though ! You goin to keep it iron sites or you gonna put a lil red dot on it ? Seems a very popular thing over there when it comes to driven hunts

Wow. Maybe since my bride nixed the new dog idea she won't roll her eyes if I bring home a rifle? Over the life time of a dog bout the same cost.

you must have mighty cheap vet bills

1k for a dog
500 initial vaccinations and first year stuff
then about 200 a year
also the flee tick heartworm stuff is about 175 every 6 months

on a 10 year dog that would add up to a heck of a rifle

Thanks for the good thoughts and words. I look at T-man every day, but post rarely because if I don't have anything to add, I just sit on the sidelines. You all are a big thing in my life and I've learned a ton over the years.

Wolfdog, I'm going to shoot it with the fiber optic setup it has on the rib. Like I said, it is a great sight picture and the trigger pull is exactly like my Benelli, and shooting at running pigs is a lot like shooting ducks, so I like the feel. I love the trigger on my 220 Swift that is around 1 pound and breaks like glass but on a driven hunt that is not functional.

I'll report back once the hunting starts in a couple weeks. At the start we'll hunt roe deer with the shotguns, and only in the mornings as it is still too hot for the dogs in the afternoon.

Good luck,

Pete
