I'm looking for recommendations for new deep cycle batteries. I have a 12 year old pontoon with the original batteries still in it. Finally got it on the water for the first time in two years last weekend. Motor started fine but the trolling motor was a no go. Batteries all showed fully charged and I have a friend coming tomorrow to check everything over but I'm not comfortable running them at 12 years old. What batteries do you guys that use your boat a lot use? I don't mind spending money for quality. I plan to use the boat a lot more now that I'm retired.

I have been using an everstart/Walmart marine battery for a few years to power my invertor. Use the invertor daily and recharge daily with a viking battery maintainer. Still has high 13 volts after charge.

I would check the connections to the troll motor.

12 yrs is insanely long life for a deep cycle battery, or used to be. Who knows nowadays.

I have two Costco battery that are 20 years old,,,,, Perty sure ya not going to find value like that anymore...........

I look at the Battery and tire places. Often ATT/ Internet ,,,,change out their backup batterys.....Still like new only cheaper......

If you got 12 years buy those again

maxx start were a 3 year replacement 5 year pro rate , but no longer and you can expect most anything to last 3 months longer than the warrantee

I just bought 2 yeaterday a deep cycle for my solar fence and standard for my tractor. There is an interstste battery guy not far. He sells new, factory blimish, and remanufactured. I got the blimished ones 2 for 120 cash out the door. I need 6 more for my diesel trucks and tractor. Im happy with them and very happy with the price.

Their weight is their only drawback. If you have to haul them around, they are heavy, but once in my boat I rarely move them.

Deep cycle I'd research lithium. I'm doing that now and learning some interesting stuff like they can be drawn down 100% and recharged without negative impact on lifespan. AGM should only be drawn down 50% to prevent shortened lifespan. They're half the weight of lead acid. And lifespan is double that of lead acid.

Two downsides are higher upfront cost for both battery and charger as they have different requirements on just how they are charged. They do charge faster though and don't like cold weather. Also there are now lithium batteries being designed to be "drop in" replacement in many lead acid applications.

Reports are that the higher initial more than pencils put over a longer lifespan.

Another downside is the higher energy density of lithium can result in extreme heat and discharge if damaged or improperly charged. Read that as FIRE RISK.

NOTE, I said research as I don't have any personal hands on to share but my reading so far has me wanting to know more and probably buying lithium for my future battery needs.

Life of marine battery is to charge it as soon as you get home. I have 3 everstart 6 years old

I'm currently running Duracells from Batteries Plus. No complaints yet but on their first year.

I’d use Deka to but I’m a bit biased cause I work for them driving a semi delivering them

I have had very good experience with Costco, Interstate batteries, (deep cycle/ marine). Very reasonable price too.
