Have lost 2 of my big farms for coyotes. Seems because our deer population is high
Here in mich. Farmers have decided that by lettin um live they will help control the deer.
Just wondered if anyone else has come on to this. They also have shut down all yote huntin too.

Everyone here still loves their deer and wants the coyotes gone. I’ve got a farmer buddy that hates deer, but his dad doesn’t want to shoot them. They count 70+ in a field or two on a regular basis

You get some weirdos. I had a farmer once that told me he kept the coyotes around because they eat the wild boar piglets.
Your farms would have better luck controlling deer if they actually had deer hunters that killed deer.

I have 1 property owner that kills every doe he sees in the spring thru summer and he likes coyotes and has refused anyone permission to hunt or trap coyotes on his property
But I have permission on all the properties that border him
He doesn't like me very much

Come to think of it, not many people do. grin

That sounds almost to good to be true! He provides the bait and you can set all around his property!

I had one owner who did not want me to trap fox. The fox have been gone for a couple decades when the yotes got thicker. I have lost 3 farms to bow hunters who are paying really good leases to bow hunt. Two are through a leasing agency and one is between the hunter and owner. I do trap on several places where bow hunting is done but have not lost permission. The one place the farmer gets $2800 out of the $3400 the leasing agency gets from the bow hunter. That section is about 45-50 acres. I know that farmer very well and I sure can't save him $2800 per year by killing coons. I sold him a live traps so he can get them around his buildings.

The farmers like them because they eat the gophers. Ranchers hate them because they eat the calves.

Virtually all of them I run in going on a couple years now. Hardly any coyotes but a zillion deer and turkeys. Not much that full time farmer hates more than turkey or deer. Those are the vermin in their eyes not coyotes

2 bit i sid have a farmer tell me several years ago he liked the coyotes becuse tgey ate groundhogs and tge mice that plug up his tilage drains. I was suprised and it stunk becuse there were a lot of them there and i had a live market so the return those years was the best I have ever had.

Antler hunters are not doing anyone any good here. Deer numbers stay high and lots of properties off limits because of the whole lease thing. Pretty common for them to donate the meat. Its all a competition, bragging rights. I guess I will never understand it.

Yea, same here, only giant bucks are killed here. The problem is that most bucks have deformed antlers. We can kill 3 bucks a year here so I take out 3 deformed ones a year. Usually the 1st three days of ML season. After that I'm trapping.

Makes sense to me. If your farming crops deer and turkey are pests. Anything that preys on them is OK then.

If I had the choice of lots of coyotes or lots of deer I'd gladly take lots of coyotes.
Too many deer will ruin the land, can't say the same about coyotes.

No love for yotes here they are high on the Governors hit list they have been fo a while now. Lots of land changing hands lately in my area older generations of farmers/ranchers retired or have died less people control more land by purchasing or renting it.

I've heard it said that there are good coyotes and bad coyotes. Good coyotes have a healthy fear of humans and stay out of sight and take care of rodents and pests that destroy crops. Then there are bad coyotes that have learned to be bold and will go after livestock and are truly a nuisance. If a farmer/rancher has good coyotes and you kill them, there's a chance that bad coyotes will move in to fill the void and create problems that weren't there before.
