Howdy everyone,
I’ve trapped and called coyotes for quite a while although I haven’t set for the last couple of years. And I’m sure I know some of you from conventions and fur sales though I haven’t posted in a while. Right now I’m out of my league. I help out around my church with weeding and landscape maintenance and I’ve noticed that we have a budding gopher problem. Anyone have any tips or maybe point me to a book so I can rid the place of our new friends?

Google "Trapline traps". Steve Albano sells gopher traps and has a good tutorial on his website.

Thank you kinley. I will. I also found some good literature published by the university of Oregon that that’s free for download while I was waiting. I appreciate it. Just out of curiosity I’d love to know if those spendy Carbon Monoxide devices work. Not that I’m ever dreaming of getting one. Lol

No book needed. This site and the ARCHIVES is all you need from trappers throughout the country dealing with their favorite traps, different sub-species, soils, climate, habits, etc. While googling for Trapline Products’ tutorials, do a search for “trapping pocket gophers, Trapperman Forums.” You’ll get a ton of tips and techniques you can use. Good Luck!

Looks like you have 3 sub species of gopher. Only the Townsend and Northern pocket gopher are common the third is rare.
If you have the Townsend you need a large trap as it can be pretty big as gopher go. Traplines Gophenator is to small. They make the Magnum Gophenator which I would recommend. The only outlet for those is Wildlife Ontrol Supply. Not sold on traplines site.
If you have Northern gophers the smaller trap will work I think.
