On my way home from work, I often detour around the block before getting on the highway. I work in an industrial area, but it is bounded by the Detroit River, a conservation area and a small, urban nature park. I see lots of deer, birds, etc along the railroad tracks.
Today, my eye was caught by a quick movement, a small frog leaped out of the tall grass on the shoulder into the road...and I mean jumped! Not a hop, he probably cleared a foot and a half vertically. Hot on his heels came a scrawny mink, looking for a meal. The frog jumped again and the mink did a flying corkscrew jump to change direction after it.
In a second, they were gone again into the tall grass.
I wish I had video LOL.

Just happy to be here.

Sometimes seeing wildlife doing what wildlife does in a micro environment is really cool. 99.9% of the public would never notice it.

But as trappers - hunters - fishermen etc , WE see these things and they are truly a joy to see.

Thanks for posting your encounter.

That was a cool sighting slydogx. I wonder what the outcome was. I'd bet the mink got it's meal.

I watched a mink hunting along the banks of the Yellow Breeches Creek a while back. It was very interesting how it checked out every nook and cranny as it made it's way along the shoreline.

I saw a redtail sitting in an alfalfa field yesterday coming home from work. I stopped to watch it and it got nervous and flew off with a sizable snake in it's talons.

Cragar is right, as outdoors people we notice these things more than others.

Eh...wot?

That mink caught that frog you could bet on that they are tenacious hunters. If you ever see a litter of mink crossing the road it’s hard to tell what ends up with the bunch loping in a pile.

I watched a mink fishing for several minutes one time. I was standing on a county bridge deck checking out a beaver dam. The water was fairly clear and I could even see it most of the time it was under water.
