I cut a piece of canvas off an old hunting vest an dipped it in paraffin out of curiosity. It was pretty similar to tin cloth.

Used to wear them quite a bit, never tried to make them. I still wear the hat, in fact I just got a new one last year. Filson sold the 'wax oil' to retreat the tin cloth, not sure if it is exactly the same stuff as it is originally impregnated with, but you could get it and put it on your canvas melted and I'm sure it would be pretty close.

I think your talking about TIN pants , which is to treat a sturdy denim pair of pants with oil finish and wax

typically it was bees wax and linseed oil

this guy updates the formula a bit and gives good explanation as to why




makes a tougher more water resistant canvas or denim pant but it also makes them not breath well
