I think rats and mice can't regurgitate and it expands in their stomachs and kills them.

All you need is the instant potatoe mix but if you add the baking soda with peanut butter that kills rats and mice and I’ve heard squirrels

I have been having problems with rats getting into my feed bags. I set traps, live traps and bought poison , still had problems. Tried this bat and have been finding dead rats everywhere. Once they drink water that's it. I found one rat half way out of a water bowl.

I have problems in my shed. Is that half a cup?? Or half flour and half baking soda to equal a bag of potato mix?

I buy a small box of Baking Soda, small bag of flour or cornbread mix and a small bag of instant potato's. Mix it up real good and use a couple of table spoons in different areas.

Good tip thanks for sharing. At present we have a barn cat that is an excellent mouser and is raising 2 litters a year.
Once they are weaned and half grown, I ration them about 2/3s of what they would eat if given full feed. It's working well, no mice, rats, or even lizards to notice and no blatant feed heists. Heck I haven't even seen a snake near the homestead this summer.

small bag of instant potatoes , do you happen to have an approximate ounce size on that
a quick search says

Dollar general has a 4oz package for 1.50
or a 13.75oz box for 2.75

sub pound both seems small to me , just wondering what you consider small.

I don't understand the use of baking soda in these recipes. It should introduce stomach distress. Especially in rodents who cannot burp.
Watched several deer bait makers on utube last night and all used baking soda. This is new to me.

That is why I use traps and poison when needed.

I am also wondering about the purpose of the baking soda and the flour. Could you expand on that?

We do not have any rats nearby, but we are always looking for non-poisonous weapons against mice in the garage and shed. If a soon-to-be-dead mouse wanders around outside, we do not want an interested chicken to get poisoned.

A few years back, we heard of mixing attractant foods with plaster of Paris, like oatmeal with plaster of Paris. The plaster of Paris is meant to harden in the mouse's digestive tract and kill it.

Do ya mix any water with it ... to make it like a paste, or cake ?
Or just put it out in a little dry pile ?
Thanks !
I can use this !

Hi, I do not know it works but it does work. I also have chickens. The rats where chewing holes in feed bags. I had 110's, also the round type, rat bait, live traps and rat traps. They where still chewing holes in the feed sacks. I put the mix out and finding or smelling dead rats. Once they drink water that it. I found one half out of a water bowl and others close by.

Dry, out of the weather, just a few table spoons at different locations.

if you mixed water with it , it would pre expand

a water dish a few feet away to encourage a good drink and let it expand would make the most sense

I am going to have to give this a try

I have some barns with powder dry dirt in them where this could be good

no shortage of mice and rats , got some of each in traps while trapping coons

The baking soda may react with their stomach acid, and cause them to swell up inside.
