I am looking into buying a few to try in the big woods mountains of Pa this year… I was wondering how well they hold coyotes? Plus I was wondering if the Saber tooth JR would hold a coyote or fox or Bobcat? Any help is appreciated!

Big woods the drag will eventually catch on something and you'll have a pretty good drag trail.

I'd be a bit leary on the Jr with coyotes unless you got a lot of thick brush.b

I have both and when using the juniors I use a heavier, longer chain...have not had issues.

Never used the Jr but the regular Sabertooth is great for coyotes and cats. Mine are always hung up within a few yards of the set as long as there is brush around.

I gravitated to smaller drags and more chain.

We use some of the regular sabertooth drags and long chain.
They work great.

Do they hang up quick? I was planning trapping open big woods and it’s all rock so staking is a nightmare… how long of a chain and size do you guys run?

Hang up usually within sight if setting in brush or wooded area. You can pre-hook drag or in place of drag, use a cable extension which is much lighter to carry in wooded area. Cable extensions are less expensive as well and work great.

I use 8'-10' chain with a 3 lb.- 4 lb. drag.
Many times chain is wrapped around sapling or brush and drag is laying on ground (not hung up).

I use surveyor ribbon tied to drags. Easy to spot, easy to fine equipment if pull out occurs.

I absolutely love using drags and use them every chance I get. My recommendation is a 3-4 lb drag with no less than 8 feet (10 feet is better) of #3 chain.

My personal setup is a little over 8 feet of #3 chain hooked to a foot of #5 chain that is hooked directly to a 3 lb JC Conner Pro Pivot Tracker drag. The pivot drag digs in but the #5 chain insures the drag stays down on hard ground. With my trap chain it brings the total length of chain to around 10 ft.

I prehook all my drags where I can unless I want to totally preserve the set area (like a cat cubby, crawl-under, blind trail set, etc.)

Hope this helps...

If you want to swing down to my shop I can show you the heavy duty drags I sell- you're only 25 minutes or so away
