Life got too busy and I left my truck hitch in for too long. It rusted itself solid into the receiver. Hours of kroil, beating, then heating and beating and it's finally out. PSA if you live in a place that covers its roads with salt. Take that hitch out and grease it up every now and again. Otherwise you'll be outside with a hammer for half a day uttering words that should never be said.

Yep, been there, done that.

I always remove mine. I mostly used a Class 5 pintle hook for towing and it's not a cheap piece of equipment. I'd worry about some low-life swiping it if I left it in the receiver when not towing.

Had that happen on my last truck. I beat on it awhile, then decided to put the pin back in and leave it alone. I bought a boat/trailer that took a 1-7/8" ball and decided it was easier to change out the trailer hitch to a 2" than remove the receiver/ball on my truck. I already had another 1-7/8" receiver/ball setup, sold it. Lol

Did it work? I tried that but didn't want to tear my truck apart, so I didn't give it all she had and it didn't budge.

Don't have the rust here but do have knothead losing key to a locked hitch pin.

I always keep mine behind the seat unless I'm using it.

Main reason , I end up whacking my shin against it and that smarts a bit.

Been there, done that. Looked at a used truck at a car lot once that had one stuck in they said they couldn't get out with a torch. Only have an issue with the Dodge because I don't tow with it often, but I use both 2" and 2 5/16" in it so I have to change it once or twice a year. My stinger never comes out of the Toyotas unless I am selling the truck or I've worn them out and have to replace them. Switched to the solid stingers over the tube ones because I would egg out the holes for the pin on the tube ones in a few years. When you egg out that hole so they have a half or three quarters of an inch of slop in them it makes for a Jolty ride with a trailer behind you. Usually I don't have a problem with them rusting into place though because they have trailer behind them most of the time and that keeps the stinger broke loose.

Had one that froze up, pretty much banged the ball flat trying to get it out, so I sold the truck....

Like to wrap the outer hitch channel with black electricians tape, and tap it in with a dead blow hammer.

Dampens vibration chatter as well.

Yep, I've seen them rust in dang near solid, even here.

If you leave it in it also makes an excellent shin buster. Several years ago a buddy walked into his while carrying my (cased) custom flintlock ($3K+). It put him as well as my rifle on the pavement. He did all he could to protect my rifle on the way down and it didn't suffer anything beyond a minor scratch. He landed on one shoulder, broke his humerus and cracked the shoulder ball. It put him in a world of hurt and out of commission for 4 or 5 months.

Additional PSA crank your spare tire down and lubricate the stupid cable and cable box assembly. That SOB will lock up on you tighter than a rat's (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) if you don't get flat tires all that often. It sucks when you do get a flat and cant get it to crank down ..... been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

This happens a lot. The proverbial use it or lose it. Just cranking it up and down once a year does wonders.

Ok, so I took the advice and removed the hitch, only had to bang on it a little, lol, scraped and cleaned it up, waiting for the break free to work on the ball so I can never seize it, though I thought I did that on install....? going to work on the spare tire winch next....

Anyhow I don't have to sell the truck now.
