Do you not have a tracker for your hound that can double as you personal GPS?
Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

I have a smart phone and use On-X. Can pin point traps or points of interest as well as property lines or names of land owners. Way more benefits than your standard GPS for a lot less. Something to think about.

Etrex's are good if you never want to do anything with them on a computer mapping program IMO. Small screen and hard for me to see.
The 60CSX and above are better for that and cost a couple hundred more.
It really just depends on what you need it to do. Tracking and taking waypoints is one thing, being able to see a large screen (important for me) is another.
For all my equipment, I now use a Garmin Montana, but the 60CS can still to the job.

OnX is good. I use it daily. But one cannot export data from it to other formats easily. Takes some work arounds.
It just depends on what one is needing it for. There is generally a tool for every job.

I had a state of the art Garmin several years ago and found OnX on my smart phone was much easier to use and provided a lot more information. Obviously the GPS units have changed since then but so have smart phones. The screen on my phone is at least 5 times larger than the screen on the GPS and has color. OnX provides the info you need like property lines, foliage types, trails, contour lines, etc.
You DO NOT need cell service for the phone GPS function to work. It won't download map info without cell service like a GPS will, but you can download maps ahead of time to use offline (the offline map function in OnX). Even if you have cell service it is better to go offline because you don't have to wait for data to download.
OnX has a free trial period, 10 days I think, that you might consider trying.

I use the Garmin 680 with On-X maps loaded on it, and would be lost without it. I also have On-X on my phone and laptop as well. My Garmin doesn't have the ability to use satellite imagery like my phone and laptop, but more than enough detail to get me around and the accuracy of waypoints allows me to find a set even after a healthy dump of snow. Both my Garmin and phone ride on my truck dash when scouting and running my lines. Most of my cat lines are extremely remote and without phone service, but it's still nice to have back at base camp where I do have signal to review my day's progress.

Bought a Garmin Solar watch $200 on sale at Cabela’s it will do a lot of things but my Onx is my go to in the woods. I have a blocked road that’s a mile and a half hike to get to the wallows but another road parallels its way to within a half mile so I just set 2 way points and im good.
The watch has a back to start mode you can pick same path back or direct line options. Less options on Onx but so many unneeded options and buttons on the watch.
Watch around $250-$300 now onx was $55 2 state no auto renewals
