I'm an old fart but most standards I'm not that old, 59 in a week. But I have had 5 knee surgeries (last one was a replacement) 4 shoulder surgeries including have both replaced and messing up one of those. A neck fusion and a back fusion. My right knee grinds and needs replacing as well. Add to that a limited income on disability, the price of gas, low price on furs and a heavy anti movement in my state.About the only trapping I do now is that which people pay me to do and I'm limiting what I do there.

So my question is, where do old trappers go to enjoy the trapline time while not killing ourselves. I've lived in VT all my life but the place has been taken over by those from the larger cities and they've turned the state I grew up in into a crap hole like they came from. Hence, VT had not one but two of the most dangerous cities to be in over the holidays last year. I really don't like heat and humidity bit am also tired of moving snow. I've found central New Mexico climate is a nice compromise, but as an avid 2nd Amendment defender, gun owner and gunsmith I really don't want to move to a state that has gotten as restrictive as where I'm leaving.

So share with me some of your experiences where you live, the pros and cons from weather to housing costs and taxes to how well your state stands for our freedoms and how accessible lands are for hunting and trapping. I have brothers in MO and AR and friends who are planning to move the NC so I was thinking some area in between.

Currently looking for a toy hauler camper to travel and visit some areas so if someone has a good one they want to get rid of, let me know. And of course if you would welcome an old fart in for a cup of coffee if I happen to be on the road in your town.

According to what I read, Arkansas is pretty good for what you want. I spent the first 47 years of my life in Nebraska and that wouldn't be a bad choice. Housing costs are some of the lowest in the country, taxes aren't bad and nobody is looking to take your guns away. Lots of areas to trap with few trappers and a little better fur quality than areas further south. Farmers will appreciate you if you can catch beaver. Likely, some of the nicest people you will ever run across. It does get cold and snowy from time to time, but it, generally, doesn't last long.

Stay away from the Peoples Republic of Maryland...we have areas that are nice to visit but this is not the state your looking for.
 Rob
That’s a bit harsh. Here on the shore life is pretty good, it’s still pretty folksy. Great fishing, crabbing and hunting. Lots of public land. There are places to avoid, but they can be easily. We aren’t quite there yet with CC but the SCOTUS corrected the “must show a legit reason to carry” crap. CC carry is on the rise here. Taxes are a problem but if you are just visiting, you can avoid most of them by patronizing neighboring tax free or lower taxed states.

If you like Tornadoes...central and south USA has plenty of them . If you survive...you’ll get a new house every 5 years.
 Wild fires ...anything out west.

 Floods...see Texas

Plenty of heat & Humidity south of Pennsylvania.

So...I’ll just plow snow and be happy

Anything east of the big river needs to be viewed in your mirror. Head for WY, ID, MT while they are still there.......and don't ever look backWhile we are still here is definitely a good point. The Western Conservative life style is fading fast.

Got tired of all the snow so relocated to Mississippi and not looking back.

I've lived in tornado alley for over 50 years and have never seen a tornado with my own eyes. Better than 15 years as a storm spotter on the local vfd..

It sound like you are close to a wheel chair, so you do not need a 55+ retirement club with golf, pools, ect ect......Active life style is good fit, but I recommend it......

I LOve the dry heat in the rim of fire AZ.
Sun City 55+ area is affordable and safe. It also has no school tax.

 The dove hunting is great.
Javelin, is a kick in the pants.
Bobcat are plentiful and most are short walk sets.
Fishing is good in the lakes and irrigation canals.
 Good Health care.

buy a home North off the Tonto Nation forest if you don't like the heat.
 Bad is, a hospitals

If you want to move, sell now and live in a RV,,,,,,,,,Smart people are selling there not used must toys before the market Bottoms.

 Prices are dropping
