They're everywhere here

There are still.alot that are green too though.

Where Jerry works there 5 or 6 miles of river bank.loaded.with them.

The banks are also.coverrd in black walnuts and they grow hand in hand.

Apparently they're some.kind of.companion plants.

Good way to keep competition from weeds down. Did a two mile loop on one of my spots the other day and found just over a gallon of fruit, of what's ripe ive got about 3c of pulp. Rest are on the counter atm. I'll wait till after the osta convention before hunting em again.

It's a beauty ain't it? Lol

They're really good this year

They're growing right along the riverbank and they are truly exceptional this year.

We're enroute to greenfield now and should be there about 9 am.

Im.excited to see how many pounds we have.

WELL...

It was a it disappointing.
We made.money but it wasn't what it was cracked up to be.

Ya live and learn.

We won't be picking pawpaws again for that market.

Pawpaws are delicate and even in a day some deteriorated.

We cant pick them.all.off the tree cause our trees are way to tall.

But we tried and we didn't go in the hole..we did make decent money...but not what we thoight ..so we're ok with that.

Mine are just getting ripe and starting to fall, and they are scrumptious!

Yeah but how long would it.take.you to.sell.1000 pounds?
I Sell them.for 10.00 for half a brown paper lunch sack..comes out to Bout 6.00 a pound but I'd rather take 4 a pound and move more quality.

In the end I'd make.more.money than you, in theory.

I'm totally clueless about pawpaws other than I know they exist. Are they sort of temperate region mango...?

Why are the seeds so valuable??

Sorry, I'd never pay north of $5 a pound for any fruit. I don't care how delicious it is.

They share some flavors with mango but not related. They're in the custard apple and soursop family. They can also have banana, pineapple and bubble gum flavors.

Among trees, id wager pawpaws are probably the most popular or fast becoming so fruit tree to grow it's being planted all around the world now.

Seeds are a bit cantankerous to take care of and to get to germinate. Most seeds are grown for root stock purposes so people can graft named varieties onto them . Also the grafting cuts a few years out of the time to produce fruit.

Price of the fruit is mainly due to the fact that they are only edible for a period of time unless you've frozen the pulp or made it into something that lasts longer. They don't transport well and don't ripen that well on the counter if you find some unripe ones.

According to the USDA's climate zones I'm located in zone 5b and pawpaws can be grown here.I've never heard of them before so after seeing this thread I researched it.I've never heard of them let alone them being grown here in the U.P. of Michigan. So I guess Ill be giving them a try next spring.

Is the fruit only on it for a short time, and how big do the trees get?

I’ve heard the seeds have a hallucinogenic affect if ingested but you also will likely die after consumption. Not sure if that is factual though.
