Kind of like a miniature pony. Cute but not really useful for much.

I really wanted a 5.7 until I priced ammunition for it!

Cool! That’d be legal in Canada, but for $399USD they won’t move.

A gun in your back pack is useless. If you want your hands free carry a pistol.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

put me down for a no thanks

a survival gun in a borderline obscure caliber that is a single shot really does nothing for me

if your going single shot you need super available ammo

if your going to be a special ammo then it needs to be mag fed , not semi auto but mag fed

for a guy with XXL fingers single feeding tiny ammo is , no

Idk about obscure. I know it's been growing in popularity in a lot of in savoury circles lol

Dont get you comment on single shots and super available ammo....mean as a actual "survival gun "? If so that makes sense

As for loading apparently it should be easy for y'all since legit just drop it in

ok so I guess there are maybe a few types of survival guns

military pilot down gun
bush pilot down
some sort of a TEOTWAWKI type situation

focus built on the task is generally the way to go or shotgun which does a bunch of things fairly well.
if it is small game to eat 22 or 22mag

what does a round intended to be a PDW that could pernitrate soft body armor do in a bolt gun?
it is sort of a light rifle cartridge that can feed in a pistol

it is all super sonic ammo so no being quiet is out , better with a can but not 22lr sub sonic with a can quiet

so if your goal is to be stealthy and shoot game to eat , 22lr sub sonic hollow points win

if your a bush pilot down you want better bear medicine and more rounds on tap without stopping to load.

and some sort of teotwawki event you want really available ammo and the ability to put rounds down range faster.

maybe I am missing some
if anyone has more survival gun types or events warranting one I would like to hear it.

for me if I can bring one "truck gun" for the things I might encounter it's a shotgun
if it is an immediate threat it is within slug range
if it is small game I am going to have more available shots with shot than bullet

no it isn't small or light but it rides in a 6K pound truck

my old truck gun was a bolt action 12ga with a c-lect choke it was a little lite on ammo capacity but I picked it up cheap and in a few seconds I could make the pattern what I needed from x-full to open. a selection of shells gave me options. 8, 6 , 4, buck and slugs

for me my most common uses for a truck gun were , I would be some place and some one would complain about the ground squirrel digging all the holes in their yard , or a raccoon , or something needed dispatching
if I didn't get it with my pistol the shotgun was up.
not survival but life.

I don't mind single shots because I so rarely ever need to shoot twice. I tend to agree that any gun folded up in a backpack is plannin to be late. A small scout rifle packed away would only be appealing so long as you have self defense on your hip.

As far as expensive or hard to obtain ammo, shootin it out of s single shot would be more appealing than out of an AR platform to me anyway.

Back is wrecked now. ( not from backpcking) However I have done a lot of it. Not with all the doodads so popular now but a LOT none the same. For extra groceries I carried an old stevens single shot 22. Had the little knob on the bolt you pull back to c o c k it. A box of ammo dont cost much and fits in a pocket. I just carried it. Never know when supper will show up. Bears and lions were hunted hard back then. Scared of humans. Today I might still have a light 22 rifle but there would be a handgun on my belt.

start by identifying threats and potential targets

then what would be the ideal gun for each of those threats

then what would be the lightest option for each of those

what has cross over

now start making compromises in one type of use or the other

If it had a self cocking bolt and magazine (5 or 10 rounds) it would be a great. Accurate enough to head shoot small game and legal for hunting (for my state). It would be perfect for a canoe.
