Eat your hearts out Lower 48 trappers!

Alaska's governor, Mike Dunleavy is a trapper himself! Today he was in Fairbanks with a big smile on his face and tales of how supportive he is of trapping.

Today he was here to sign House Bill 125 into law. It is a bill that improves upon our Trapper Cabin Construction Permit statute. With proper paperwork/proof, trappers who make regular use of established traplines on state land are permitted to build cabins for winter shelter while long-lining. This new law streamlines the paperwork and enshrines a more reasonable payment schedule in statute.

50 years ago I helped draft the original version of the TCCP bill introduced by Representative Red Swanson of Nenana, so today was a big milestone for myself and the Alaska Trappers Association.

Every so often, we stop and thank our lucky stars for the privilege of being able to live here in Alaska! We do not take this opportunity lightly. We cherish what we have.

You forget the governor of Montana is also a trapper. He has taken his share of heat from antis because of this. There are numerous others here in office who are trappers, not just the governor. I know some personally, have donated some older traps of mine to them.

Of course we all want all states to have governors like ours, and not a few more are hunters.
