I'll bet a lot of the younger folks don't know about the bread trick Jbyrd.

Can we omit the animosity from a simple plumbing thread ?

Most plumbing contractors don't sweat fittings on copper anymore. Propress is the current rage. Faster and takes less skill.

Part of the reason for not soldering anymore is the risk of fire in the house, and it does happen, in ground I wouldn’t use anything but metal for splices, with the bread don’t forget to take the crust off.

Oh the memories. I had a client would not let me work if he was not present. Like a bird on my shoulder. Irritating for sure. I can still remember firing up the torch under the kitchen and seeing his eyeball stuffed in a knot of the 2x6 t&g sub floor. That eye looking at me as he's yelling " dont burn my house down, Dont burn my house down!"
his face was in the way of my work

Hey guys, pex has only been approved for use in the USA since 2012.
It's not a thing of the past just yet. don't make me feel older than I am, time is going too fast already.

I’m not a plumber nor have I used these connections. However, connectors placed underground MAY be affected by the acidity of the soil. The pex shouldn’t be affected by it but the metal may be.

Talk to a local plumber to see what he says is the culprit. You might be surprised at his answer.

The way the metal on the fitting kind of just deteriorated so quickly, I kind of already suspected the acidity of our soil may have played a part.

What are people using for PEX fittings that aren't Sharkbite?

I didn’t read all the post so it’s probably been discussed. It’s not the sharkbite fitting as much as it’s the metal quality in all new fittings. We have hundreds probably 1000’s of fittings in tge feed yards and on the farm. About 5 years ago we had to quit all Pex brass and move to Pex plastic fittings. The water ate the new brass in a year or less. I personally had to replace all the Pex brass in my house a couple years ago and install Pex plastic.

Not sure I saw Pex plastic fittings . Where do you find those?

You can get them at Menards or online. When I redid my plumbing I used Supply house.com for pipe and fittings, plus several trips to the hardware store.

We used the crimp on style as I have those tools but not ex-pander style.

My water source is about 400 yards long and about 300 yards or so already buried. with splices 100 feet apart as that was the longest pieces I could source local. we will be wrapping ALL of the spices with silicone tape as Shark Bite says to do and hope for the best.

You can get plastic barbed fittings for pex tubing at TSC or most feed and farm stores.
