How’s the hunting been? And for those who have hunts planned-but not started yet, let’s hear about them!

I have no out of state hunts planned this year, other than an Illinois whitetail archery hunt in early November with a buddy and my brother. We try to do that annually. Looking to plan a hunt or two in the future, building points in Colorado and Wyoming. Probably won’t happen until 2030 ish.

Good luck guys who are hunting out west! Please share pictures of your adventures

I have a cow elk hunt coming up. Sept 21 opening day. I've never hunted elk before.
This is a mission to fill the freezer.

I settled for the poor man's adventure. Drove 25hrs to Wyoming a couple weeks ago and was back on the road 24hrs later with 2 really nice pronghorn in the back. It was my son's first ever hunt in the state due to the stupid "age 12" rule. He got to hunt a grand total of 35 minutes of opening morning before filling his tag.

I've got elk in my stinking yard, but no tag! Next year, I hope to get a freezer filler tag and arrow one in my pajamas. I've put several unsuccessful (archery only) stalks on nice mulie bucks, but no shots yet. My kids will be here in a week, and they're getting rifle tags, so we should have some success on the deer.

DIY private ranch for low trespass fee. Surrounded by big name outfitters that would be nearly 3k more for t g e same hunt. Saw way more bucks t h an doe and thankfully every doe we saw had twins.

Good to hear. I know a lot of antelope bit the dust with the tough winter before last. Happy trapping! ScottW

We hunted around Wheatland. Have pics but not good at posting. We went early this year, usually go in November but weather is better and cows/buls are not bunched up as much.

On our last trip out to CO we stayed in Wheatland! I’ve got I think 7 points in WY now and starting to try pick a unit as I’d really like to go there sometime in the next 6 or so years depending on family stuff etc. In a perfect world I’d like to try archery and then come back later for rifle if I’m unsuccessful but I know some units don’t work well for that due to wilderness areas and then migration. First world decisions! lol. Happy trapping! ScottW

Elk were bugling the first few days a warm spell hit the shut down, started back up but mostly short calls no cadence classic calls like they are clearing their throats.

The bull I shot a few days ago had a smaller bull eyeballing his cow and he did not care.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!
