Looking for a concentrate grass specific herbicide to knock back the quack grass that really got a boost from last season drought in my acre or so of restored prairie. Not looking to eliminate all grass just give the returning forms an advantage again. It would take case of the premixed bottles for flower gardens. Have a good back pack sprayer.

Check on clethodium. It is what I use in the flower garden and on my clover plot. No..not clethodim if he is targeting specific grass like he says he wants to. You are right, its great for clover plots. Clethodim is not specific...it will kill all grasses.

Quinclorac will selectively take out crabgrass and other broadleafs without taking out your regular grass. Its the best thing ive used for crabgrass. DriveXLR8 is specific brand that ive used....make sure to use a surfactant. But it will kill his flowers, if he indeed does have some in the mix and it sounds like he does.

Nothing I am aware of will target Quack grass specifically. When it takes hold in a golf course or sod field you Round Up and start over.

Drive will kill Crabgrass. In my experience it just makes Quack grass mad ! Thanks 2poor. My experience has been with crabgrass, and it worked great. Ive read it worked on quack grass, but no experience with it...and I should know not to believe everything i read. Sounds like you have more experience with quack grass....

Drive will kill Crabgrass. In my experience it just makes Quack grass mad ! That's been my experience as well. I've tried with 3 different crabgrass killers that will isolate crabgrass specifically while not harming regular grass 3 times this summer. One turned the crabgrass tips red for a few days and then came back stronger than ever. I was told by a local nursery that a preemergent in the spring is the most effective. I'll try that in spring.

Best solution in a lawn is to fertilize and mow 2X a week with sharp blades. A dense lawn will choke out Quack grass. It was the best solution I found in the sod fields anyway. Grass cut often tends to spread roots and the turf denser. Any weed struggles to take hold in that environment.
They make wipers that apply RoundUp relying on the fact Quack grows at a much faster rate. To many what if’s for me to try that on a Sod Field.
You can buy a hoe with a wick that works on the same principle. You wipe the invasive plant. Use to walk beans with one to clean up the fields.

Been away. More detail. A smaller portion of the prairie is right in front of our home and we are working to keep the taller grasses from crowding out the flowering Forbes there so any grass(any type) specific killer is OK. But not hurt broadleafs. I will not apply heavy enough to kill all grass but just set it back, especially quack. Looking for something like “grass be gone” but bulk concentrate to mix in sprayer.
