Ill premise by saying I am a carpenter. I have fair enough skills mudding. I have been remodeling my house and have finished the outside and am moving inside. I am doing drywall returns into the windows. Tear away/zip strip against the window. Metal corner bead for the return proper. One of my windows I made bigger and the drywall was to far away for the corner bead to bridge. Would you hot mud this gap? Could i use the same spray adhesive for the tear away and spray it on some joint tape and bridge that way? Thanks

If I understand right there is a gap between where the bead is going and the drywall. That distance from the corner to the edge of the drywall must be big enough that you could add a thin strip of drywall. This would be the best way. The thing drywall strip can be glued into place with construction adheasive if your worried about destroying it with nails/screws.

If not fill the gap with mud, cover mud with joint tape, let dry and add more mud as required. Contour as if it was drywall coming up to corner. Add bead and finish as normal.

Filling that thin gap can be filled with all sorts of stuff really, plywood, drywall, whatever is the right thickness. Filling with something solid is quicker and better than using mud.

My Dad was a drywall contractor and I worked for him much longer than I wanted to.

I second what Dirty D wrote. Glue a skinny strip of Sheetrock in the gap then install the corner bead and mud as you normally would.

Eh...wot?

Freaking hate the stuff!!! I just came in from doing 3rd coat on my addition. I'm pretty decent at anything building wise, why on earth can I not get this drywall thing lol.... in today's modern world there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't bevel ALL edges. These butt ends are killin me.

Trash your goals and plans for life. Just wing it and you'll never be let down!

It's all about the way you hold the knife
Knowing which side of the knife is for butt joints and which side to for factory seams is the first step in a good finish
And mixing the mud to a smooth consistency
