Had a place to hunt a few years ago in Northern Illinois that the beaver got into the corn.
Looked just like that and the stalks were jammed into the over flow pipe on a pond.
We had a great duck season !
Never even got hit with a baiting violation.

I get a good number of corn damage calls. Oddly enough, I usually only take one or sometimes two beaver and then that spot goes dead - typically just one.
Had one recently that I took a big male and hung a camera to monitor, nothing for the past 11 days. Walked the edges yesterday and no new corn damage. This is a lake with annual contract, so might have been a lone bachelor because it was clear as of early June.

I've trapped areas of alfalfa that had perfect half circles cut.

Groundhogs will do the same. If their den is in the field, it will be a circle around the den. If the den is along a field edge, it will be a semi-circle. Just the way it is.......

Here it seems the only way to trap them is under a nuisance permit.
They work the corn and beans up till harvest, then leave the area.
Sometimes they're not far away on the river, and a scent post or mud pie set will take them during season.
Harvest is normally long before season opens here.
Plus being on a river, you might trap them all, and a week later new one or two show up.
Here you can set almost anywhere on a river with a mud pie set and catch a few.
Usually two year olds kicked out on their own.
Breeding season they're running the river a lot.

This has been my experience it’s amazing they’ll go about 5 miles to get back to the river by trapping season.
