I have an oak fleshing beam that had nicks and a few small gouges. I sanded the beam smoth again. What should I seal the beam with or just leave it as raw wood andthen sanding again when needed?

Flesh a couple three coons on there and it'll be greased up just fine.

Any fat from any critter you regularly do. I have 3 different beams two are oak one is just pine all many years old now .One gets used only for muskrats. The other two I use kind of depends on size of critters but I use my big beam most. When I first made them I just used them. Usually if you do enough critter you end up wiping grease off them pretty regularly. I never have put grease on them just to preserve them. Just use them whpe them down when done. You will be fine.

Keep a lot of sawdust handy to get rid of the excess.
