A successful marriage is growing old and learning to ignore each other most of the time. Just my take on it.

That said my wife goes on bus tours with her sister or to the casino, I go hunting without any hassles, I think it’s good for both of us to get some space of our own. I could be back in a week or a month no real time limit “my advice to you younger guys is NEVER say you’ll be back at any certain time!) if your 10 minutes late your late you will hear about it. if you say in a few days it’s open to interpretation then.

My wife is my best friend. I always council with her before I make any big decisions, as that is what I believe to be Biblical. Sometimes, we have irreconcilable conclusions; that is when I make the decisions; and she is OK with it.

As far as hanging out with my buddies, I always let her know cause she is my best friend.

Are they whipped (whatever that is) or are they just being respectful and asking if their wife has other plans?

I hunt or fish or do whatever most of the time, we also take a lot of day trips places and go visit lots of festivals and renaissance fairs! We have a family calendar that we mark important dates on. We check that calendar before either of us schedule things.

Most opening days of seasons and annual festivals are on it. If I just wanted to go off and do my own thing all the time, I would be single. Now, don’t get me wrong, we both still do stuff alone, but we are also together the rest of the time. Just gotta give the other a heads up.

I will say, I hunt and fish mostly during the week, that is my time to do those things. Saturdays are for family, Sundays are for deer hunting a few hours in the morning or evening. Only exceptions are opening day of dove season, duck seasons and the various turkey seasons!

I like being happily married and continuing my career as a wife moocher.

Can’t argue with that! I feel the same way…. About my wife being my best friend, not yours being my best friend. Although, I’m sure your wife is a lovely person.

Smash… How would you react to your man telling you that you CAN’T do something? Not something that could get you hurt or is a bad judgement on your part, but you’ve made plans and he says NOPE, you ain’t going or lays a bad enough guilt trip on you that you give in.

I’m not disparaging my wife. We have common enough respect for each other and do enough stuff together that she simply wouldn’t do what I’ve described. Neither would I.

I respect my husbands headship if that’s what you’re asking. He takes care of us and I trust him. I’m battling right now cause I want another dog. It really isn’t a good time and my emotions are winning. I ain’t on the right page so I can’t get mad at him for not being there either. But I’m still grouchy about it

My brothers married gals that think more of themselves than they should. The younger one is now single again, not by his choice and it was pretty bitter. Funny how fast she got herself another fellow and how quickly she done got backslidden from her prim and proper Southern Baptist ways. What upsets me is how she's all but ruined their daughter and poisoned the two boys against their dad.

Mama called that whole scenario some twenty years ago and Dad gave her no slack either.

The other one married one of those holiness COG types that came into the marriage from a single wide without a pot to pee in. Gave him three boys, none of which respect their mama. First clue should've been not taking my brother's name. Total deal breaker in my book. Now she runs around claiming to be a COG pastor without a pulpit. That brother really angers me because he was raised to know better and done gone against his raising. But he made his bed.

When we were under 50 mine not only encouraged me to go but was kind hurt if I didn't take her plus she'd step up and help with packing the mules, saddling horses, setting up tents and doing the cooking, now with both of us over 70, still get encouragement to get gone but she isn't as interested in going along, guess that's how we get to celebrate 54 years togetherness next thursday

A woman's take, as Drifter's wife.

If we're trapping, these days, it's usually together unless I have work, when he then checks the traps. But it's a single trapline.

If it's hunting, it's usually me, as he doesn't have that much interest in hunting.

Years ago, work schedules forced us to run separate traplines. I worked days, he worked nights. We ran two separate lines and did our own thing.

As far as the whole permission thing, I think it's just common courtesy to check with your spouse before making plans... both ways.

I think the main difference is that women tend to know when there's something on the schedule, while men don't, therefore they ask. For example, if someone invited us to a wedding or party or some such, and I knew my husband had something else (like, for example, a hunting trip) planned that weekend, I would turn down the invitation. I wouldn't have to ask my husband if he had anything planned that weekend, because I would already know that he did.

Men, on the other hand, don't tend to keep track of things like that, so before committing to a hunting trip might want to check with the wife to make sure it's not their brother's wedding what weekend or some such.

Just because someone wants to check with their spouse before committing to a hunting weekend doesn't in any way mean they're whipped.

On the other hand, if they tell you they can't hunt that weekend because they need to take their wife shoe shopping, well then maybe lol.

I would never tell my husband he couldn't do something "just because". If he asked about something a particular weekend, I WOULD remind him if we already had prior commitments that weekend.

I think you're thinking people are whipped without perhaps knowing the full story.

In the extremely rare case that we're at complete odds over what is to be done a certain date, I tend to let him win, lol.

Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.
