The big problem with public education is that many schools put the stupid kids with the smart kids and then progress everyone in the classes education at a level the stupid kids can manage.
One of my best friends decided to home school his kids. I worried about the kids being properly socialized and told him so. The kids did sports, field trips and other activities, with other kids and turned out great.
The main negative with home schooling is that weirdly religious people make their kids even weirder with home schooling.
Keith I may be one of those people today. I have a strict moral code and standard based on God's law. you know the base for our civilization and country was founded on. Now our country is moving to no accountability and morals my family is seem more and more as odd. yep its odd my 22 year old daughter has not been ran through and have a high body count but instead focused on here school and reptial and rodent businesses not chasing men. My boys are better outdoorsmen than 90% of grown men. are thoughfull and respectful. Always than me for talking them hunting and know the limits boundaries and what's expected of them. I tend to work what people see as a lot and don't need shiny new things to look like I have money instead prefer to not have debt ans pit money into investment. I mean we are actually very weird compared to your average people, also much more happy connected and grounded. being different/weird is also very freeing and stress free as a life style. Debt free is very relaxing and freeing and stress free. weird can be very good. I have zero interest I. being like everyone else and what's considered normal.

The religious people I'm specifically thinking of first sent their kids to Fairfield Christian on Route 4, just North of I275. They pulled the kids out and home schooled them. The kids were molested, raped, not given medical care and severely beaten by their parents. Both parents ended up being sent to prison. The parents used the fear of God to justify their horrendous treatment. The kids were put in mental institutions. It was a big scandal at the time in the late eighties and the first time I ever heard of home schooling. One of the abused boys played on my youngest brother's soccer team, until the dad made him quit, shortly after the season started. The young teenage daughter was impregnated by her father, who claimed she was impregnated by an angel, who visited her at night.
Keith yes like I posted above there is alway a few evil people that may use it as a way to keep the state off their back.. And other that prevent religion and use it to justify their sick satanic choices. been like that since the fall. what your describing is some of the worst. how your post I responded to could be taken like many other post and the misconception that home schoolers are weird and can't function in social settings. becuse they knew some That hade issues. while over looking all the public school kids thar habmve the same and often worse issues. But they try to make it out homeschooling are all off ecuse off a few off kids that just happen to have been home schooled. Any group of the general population you get some general poor preforming people. But as shown in study after study typically home schooled kiss do better in collage, starting business a d are bet preforming. Is it homeschooling alone no I don't think so I think it has everything to do with high levels of parent involvement and it's more likely to be a stable 2 parent home that's financially stable at least enough to get by on a single income and spend a few thousand or more on school supply each year.

Every home schooler I have ment far exceded the average public school student in intelligence. The public education system in our country is a disgrace. This^^^ All those I've talked with tell me there is coordinated testing program that the homeschoolers must meet throughout the year. All the kids I know that have been homeshooled seem more educated than those from public schools. The only issue I've seen are kids that were homeschooled their entire life have zero social skills.

The advantage of homeschooling is not being taught what the state system pushes. Like it's okay to be gay so go ahead and try it even if you don't think you are. Most small town schools are okay but you get in the cities it gets disturbing.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

My take, your kids can get a good education in public schools IF the parents have been teaching them about life, a work ethic, independent thought and the consequences of poor decisions. I always say the cream will rise to the top in most cases, even in inner city schools, That said, there are poor schools, poor teachers, and a lot of poor students that are prone to give up or are just lazy with no parents pushing them. Private schools are not necessarily better, My daughter taught over 10 years in high end ,(expensive) private schools. The kids were no better for it and often worse, many rich parents enrolled their dysfunctional children just to avoid being labeled with whatever ailed them. Putting these children in a regular class does a disservice to all the students, private school or public, schools often teach to the lowest level so no one gets an education.... this needs to change instead of treating everyone like a winner...but good students can still thrive if they have the necessary parental support.
But like always, YMMV

Regardless, all of them are weird on some level because they did not learn to live among different people.
So spending the best part of 12 years stuck in a room with people the exact same age as you, we ith the same education, and mostly from.the same geographic area and socio-economic background as you prepares you for life among " different people"??? LOL, on a daily basis, mine interacted with folks from all walks of life, from PhDs to folks in the trades to farmers. FWIW, a lot of " weird" homeschooled kids are homeschooled BECAUSE they are weird, and couldn't make it or were getting eaten alive in PS. They'd be weird no matter where they when to school. As stated earlier, one of mine was in PS for grades 6-10, for sports, then in a private high school for grades 11-12, again, because of sports. He thanked us for teaching him HOW to learn, said PS was boring, he skated to straight As, but said he was challenged again in private school Another went to a public HS for about a month, said she wasn't learning anything useful, was way too much drama for her.

This is a massive concern for homeschooled children.

Lastly, I have seen some educated kids who were homeschooled. I have seen some that were not even close to educated and are totally unprepared to be productive people. Regardless, all of them are weird on some level because they did not learn to live among different people.
Must be an Oklahoma thing. I guess you have more weirdos around your area.

Sorry, I didn't get past this on the NEA website.
"The time is now to unite behind Kamala Harris, a champion for students, public education and working families, rather than a convicted felon who wants to tear down our nation and destroy our democracy so only the wealthy can benefit.
Quote by:—Becky Pringle, NEA President."
